Chrisite's auction, 6/14/1996 Tarrytown, NY lot #40.

Still all original. Body taken to bare metal and redone winter '04. Removal of all non-original (mirror/antenna) materials. "Scruffy driver" needed mechanical work and clutch which I did after purchasing at Christie's in '96. Now recieveing pampering and complete brake overhaul. Wonderful driver and can't wait for Spring.

I have finished what I would call a mild resotration after having owned the car for approx 10 years. Body down to bare metal and repaint (original color). Over the years I have had work done to maintain the character, including having the front end rebuilt, interior refreshed, clutch replaced and this winter had front brakes, rotors, calipers and all, replaced (original) I also had the carbs rebuilt including new bushings and shafts. The result is a fantastic driver. Strong, cool and smooth. The car has approx 62,000 miles thought to be very accurate (when I bought 10 years ago it has 51,000+). I have upgraded the radio and the engine cooling (high capacity fan). All matching numbers and I am told by my mechanic (Ed Miller) that the engine appears never to have been apart. I believe, having looked around, this is the earliest LHD 4.2 in existance, and perhaps the oldest 4.2 period. Would be interested in knowing if anyone is aware of #'s 1E10001 through 1E10009 being anywhere.

Regarding early 4.2L series 1 cars its believed that approximately 69 cars were shipped without the "1E" prefix. These are the very first 4/2L cars built.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
