Sellers description:
1965 Series I Jaguar XKE (E-Type) Roadster, original two-owner, rust- free California car. This car was acquired by an ex-Jaguar dealer and racer, with a goal of a concours-level restoration. Unfortunately, this individual (a family member) had a stroke over a year ago, and will not be able to complete the restoration. To the best of my knowledge, the following has been completed. This E-Type was dismantled and taken to bare metal to ensure smooth, straight panels, and then finished in original red paint. All brightwork chrome was triple-plated to the highest of standards, for a flawless shine. This beautiful roadster sits on new chrome wire wheels and tires. The perfection continues to the underside, as many items have been attended to, including a correctly finished underside, new suspension, brakes, bushings, and stainless steel exhaust. The original, numbers matching, 4.2 litre engine, was fully rebuilt to factory specifications with new pistons, oil pump, timing chain, bearings, valves, guides, and seals. The head and carburetors were fully rebuilt, and the driveshaft was properly balanced. The same holds true with the transmission and rear-end. As with all aspects of this restoration, new old stock parts were used whenever possible.

To the best of my knowledge, this is what is remaining on the restoration: the seats and dash have been redone, but the rest of the interior needs to be completed. The car, however, comes with new factory-correct black leather interior, including carpets, door panels, and soft top. All of the chrome parts are complete, but need to be installed or mounted. The windshield is new, but needs to be installed. The fueline needs to be replaced and some of the electrical needs to be attached and/or tested including to start and run the engine. The brakes need to be tested. All other necessary safety checks, etc.

This 1965 Jaguar XKE is a Series I Roadster that was built on September 16, 1964 and is powered by a 4.2-liter DOHC inline-six paired with a 4-speed manual gearbox. A member of the seller’s family purchased the car in 1985, and the seller inherited it 15 years later. A refurbishment was carried out in the mid-1990s, including a repaint and installation of a Robbins soft top. Approximately 50k miles have been added by the seller and his family over the past 34 years. This E-Type is now being offered with a matching removable hardtop, a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, and a clear California title in the seller’s name.

The car was disassembled for the 1993 repaint, which encompassed the compartments, jambs, and underside. A few imperfections are present in the finish, most notably where the front bumpers meet the grille opening and on the lower sections of the nose and rear apron. The included hardtop has been painted to match the exterior and shows some scratches.

Chrome wire wheels are secured with two-eared spinners and wrapped in Kumho Solus KR21 tires. A chrome spare resides in the trunk. The Robbins convertible top is experiencing some seam separation and shows a few imperfections. Both tops are pictured up close in the gallery.

The cabin is trimmed in black leather over matching carpets. A modern stereo and speakers are located in the center console. A speaker box has been added behind the seats, which can be easily removed according to the seller.

Smiths instruments are mounted in a black vinyl dash, and 99k miles are shown on the 5-digit odometer.

Power is from a replacement 4.2-liter inline-six equipped with a triple SU induction system and aftermarket headers. A GM 3-wire alternator is currently installed, though a Lucas alternator, regulator, and associated electrical components are included.

The included Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate lists the production date and original configuration of Opalescent Maroon over a black interior with a black convertible top.

This 1965 Jaguar XKE is a series I roadster that was built on September 16, 1964, and distributed through Jaguar Cars of New York. The car reportedly remained in the same family for over three decades and was refurbished in the 1990s before it was acquired by the selling dealer on BaT in July 2019. Another refurbishment was subsequently performed and included a rebuild of the replacement 4.2-liter inline-six and the four-speed manual transmission, a repaint in maroon, an overhaul of the black interior, replacement of the soft top, exhaust system, and clutch components, and installation of four replacement 15″ wire wheels mounted with Coker Classic tires. This XKE roadster is now offered by the selling dealer with a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate, refurbishment records, and a clean Arizona title.

Delivered from the factory in Opalescent Maroon, the car is said to have been repainted in the 1990s and then refinished again during current ownership, at which time a replacement black convertible top was fitted. Features include split chrome bumpers with overriders and guards, a retractable antenna, glass headlight covers, hood louvers, and polished moldings.

Chrome-finished 15″ wire wheels with two-eared knock-off spinners were installed during current ownership and mounted with 195-series Coker Classic redline radial tires. A full-size spare mounted with a Michelin tire is located under the trunk floor.

The interior was overhauled during current ownership and features bucket seats reupholstered in black leather, matching door panels, and black carpets, the latter of which are protected by Jaguar-branded all-weather floor mats. Equipment includes a windshield-mounted rearview mirror, a padded armrest, lap belts, and a JVC stereo linked to Polk Audio speakers.

The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with an inset clock, while supplementary Smiths and Lucas gauges are mounted in the center dash. The five-digit odometer shows 99k miles.

The replacement 4.2-liter inline-six is equipped with triple SU carburetors and was rebuilt by Sports & Collector Car Center of Tempe, Arizona, in October 2021. The block and cylinder head were reconditioned, and the head studs, seals, and engine mounts were replaced.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission, which was rebuilt in October 2021 with replacement bearings, synchronizers, and seals. The exhaust and clutch components were replaced at the same time.

The Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate lists original colors and identification numbers as well as a September 16, 1964, date of manufacture.

The car is titled by number “1E10078”, which is stamped on the reproduction chassis plate.

2022-01-15 08:20:31 | David writes:

Bring a Trailer withdrew the car from the auction as a result of doubts raised concerning the VIN the car is titled under. A commenter indicated that they own 1E10078 with all the matching numbers components. Maybe they own the car portrayed in the 2015 eBay sale listed above, since the 2019 BaT seller indicated that was not their car.

No car caused more excitement worldwide upon its introduction as the Jaguar XKE did upon its unveiling at the 1961 Geneva Motor Show. So dramatic was its presentation that more than a few moneyed individuals dropped pending commitments to fly to Switzerland and place their order in person. Lithe of line and achingly sensuous in appearance, the E-Type was rooted in the famed multiple Le Mans-winning D-Type, comprising a central monocoque with tubular steel subframes carrying the drivetrain and suspension systems. The E-Type’s timeless styling made it an instant classic, but its performance bore out its racing pedigree with a top speed of 150 MPH and silky-smooth road manners that have thrilled generations of enthusiasts.

Close scrutiny reveals this 1965 Jaguar E-Type Series I Roadster to be a standout example after the completion of a recent restoration. Built on September 16, 1964, and distributed through Jaguar Cars of New York, it has been in the care of the same family for nearly 30 years, and it was refurbished for the first time in 1990. A California car, it was reportedly dismantled and taken to bare metal for proper preparation and repainted in Opalescent Maroon. It features a new, black, leather interior including the door panels, carpet and soft top, a padded center armrest, a windshield-mounted rearview mirror, a JVC stereo with Polk Audio speakers and Jaguar-branded floor mats. All chrome pieces were triple plated for virtually flawless as-new appearance. Riding on Coker Classic Redline tires mounted on beautiful chromed 15-inch wire wheels, this E-Type also shows off a detailed, as-new undercarriage with new suspension, brakes, bushings and stainless steel exhaust.

In October 2021, its 4.2L twin-cam inline-6 engine was fully rebuilt to factory specifications, with the block and cylinder head reconditioned, the triple SU carburetors rebuilt and internals renewed, including replacing the head studs, seals and engine mounts. The 4-speed manual transmission was likewise rebuilt at the same time with replacement bearings, synchronizers and seals, and installed with a new clutch, all using NOS parts wherever possible. Documentation for this fabulous Series I E-Type roadster includes invoices and a British Heritage Trust Certificate.

Much has already been said about this car. It now has its 3rd dataplate apparently reflecting an Arizona issued VIN of 386883. Typically states issue those when the original VIN can not be proven but a paper trail is suffice to indicate it is not stolen. Note that the picture frame isn't stamped and the body tag (area behind the rear license) appears to be missing. The car may be mostly original but if matching numbers is important it may not be possible to prove to the authorities.
