This 1965 Jaguar XKE is a Series I roadster that was built on November 16, 1964, and distributed through Jaguar Cars of New York. It was acquired by the seller’s late husband approximately 30 years ago and subsequently refurbished. The car is finished in blue over dark blue leather upholstery, and power comes from a 4.2-liter XK inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes a dark blue soft top, triple SU carburetors, 15″ wire wheels, covered headlights, lap belts, and a Philips AM/FM radio. Service performed in 2022 reportedly included the installation of new spark plugs, a steering wheel, and fluid overflow bottles. This XKE is now offered with factory books, a Jaguar Production Record Trace Certificate, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.

Delivered from the factory in Pale Primrose Yellow, the body is said to have been stripped and repainted in its current metallic blue approximately 30 years ago. The brightwork was also replated at that time. Features include split chrome bumpers with overriders, glass headlight covers, hood louvers, and polished moldings.

The 15″ stainless steel wire wheels feature two-eared knock-offs and were installed in 2019. They are mounted with 205/75 Michelin XW4 tires that were installed in 2021. A matching spare wheel with an older Michelin tire is fitted beneath the trunk floor. A suspension service in 2019 reportedly included the installation of new front splined wheel hubs, wheel bearings, rear trailing arm bushings, suspension joints, tie rod ends, steering rack, column bushings and four shock absorbers. The brake system was also overhauled with new calipers, rotors, lines, and cylinders approximately three years ago.

The cabin was reupholstered in dark blue leather with matching door panels and carpets by Classic Showcase of Oceanside, California, in 2016. Equipment includes a windshield-mounted rearview mirror, a Philips AM/FM radio, and lap belts.

The wood-rimmed steering wheel was installed in 2022, and it frames Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 5k-rpm redline and an inset clock. Switchgear and auxiliary gauges are mounted in the center of the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 95k miles. Total mileage is unknown.

The 4.2-liter inline-six features dual overhead camshafts and triple SU carburetors for a factory rating of 265 horsepower and 283 lb-ft of torque. A replacement cylinder head was installed under previous ownership. The engine is said to have been rebuilt approximately five years ago, and a replacement water pump, alternator, 123ignition electronic distributor, ignition coil, wires, and radiator fan were fitted in 2019. New spark plugs were installed in 2022.

The block stamping, 7E1583-9, is shown above and matches the number listed on the Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission. New clutch cylinders were reportedly installed five years ago along with a new exhaust system.

The Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate lists powertrain numbers and original colors as well as a November 16, 1964, date of manufacture.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
