Car on BAT:
bringatrailer.com/listing/1967-jaguar-xke-coupe-12/_source=dailymail&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=2019-05-21
Current Bid: $60,000 Ends In: 6 days

Seller's description:
This 1967 Jaguar XKE is a Series I open two-seater that was purchased new by an American service member stationed in Germany. The car was reportedly owned by four consecutive Midwestern doctors before being purchased by the seller in 2008. Finished in white, the car is powered by a 4.2-liter DOHC inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission, and work during the seller’s ownership included fitment of a refurbished tan leather interior. Other equipment includes a removable hardtop, a canvas tonneau cover, and a refurbished convertible top frame. This XKE is now offered with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, a tool kit, jack and spare tire, partial service records, a copy of the original bill of sale, and a clean Iowa title in the seller’s name.

The car was delivered from the factory finished in cream, and the exterior was repainted in white during previous ownership approximately 19 years ago. The soft top frame has been powder coated according to the seller, though it is not currently installed. It is included in the sale along with a canvas tonneau cover and a removable hardtop.

Chrome 15″ knock-off wire wheels wear 185-series redline tires from Coker Classic. A spare tire and tool kit are present in the trunk.

The factory red leather interior was replaced in 2015 with fresh tan Connolly leather upholstery, refreshed door panels, and new Wilton carpet. The clock is inoperable.

The three-spoke wood-rimmed steering wheel is retained and fronts a 160-mph Smiths speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer. The 5-digit odometer shows 37k miles, approximately 5k of which were added by the seller. Total mileage is unknown.

The 4.2-liter inline-six is equipped with three SU carburetors and was rated at 265 horsepower at 5,400 rpm when new. Shifting is through a four-speed manual transmission. The seller reports that the car last received an oil change and lube in the summer of 2018.

The stamping on the cylinder head matches that listed on the body tag and the included Jaguar Heritage Certificate.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate shows a build date of April 6, 1966, as well as the original colors and German delivery.

A copy of the original bill of sale from Autohaus Heinrich Mohr of Giessen, Germany shows a total price of $4,853 and the original options. Service records dating back to 2008 are included in the sale.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
