This 1968 Jaguar XKE is a Series 1.5 roadster that was built on March 15, 1968 and reportedly acquired by the current owner in 1970. Finished in gold over a black interior, the car is powered by a numbers-matching 4.2-liter straight-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Features include 15″ wire wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, dual Zenith-Stromberg carburetors, a black soft top, and a push-button AM/FM radio. The valve cover gasket has been replaced and the car was detailed in preparation for the sale. This XKE is now offered on dealership consignment with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, factory literature, service records, a tool kit, and a clean Indiana title.
Series 1.5 XKEs received open headlights shared with Series II cars, but retained Series I features such as a small front grille opening, turn signals mounted above the front bumper, and taillights mounted above the split rear bumper. This example was originally finished in Light Blue and was repainted its current shade of gold in 1970. Brightwork includes chrome bumpers and fender-mounted side mirrors. Photos showing separation on the soft top as well as paint chips in the door jambs are included in the gallery.
Chrome 15″ wire wheels are secured by earless knock-off spinners and are mounted with 195-width whitewall Michelin tires. Braking is handled by discs at all four corners, and the car rides on independent suspension.
The interior is trimmed in black and features leather bucket seats and vinyl door panels. Amenities include an analog clock, a lockable glove box, and a push-button AM/FM radio.
A wood-rimmed steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 5,500-rpm redline while auxiliary gauges are stationed in the center stack. The five-digit odometer shows just under 62k miles, though total mileage is unknown.
The 4.2L DOHC inline-six is equipped with dual Zenith-Stromberg carburetors and was factory rated at 265 horsepower and 283 lb-ft of torque. A replacement valve cover gasket was fitted in 2021.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. The selling dealer notes the underbody was degreased in 2021. Engine stamping 7E16601-9 matches the Jaguar Heritage Certificate as well as the chassis tag. The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate lists a build date of March 15, 1968 along with factory colors and ID numbers.
