Recent new hood and new tyres. Simply lovely. An absolutely classic E-Type.

RDO 171 is a genuine, UK-supplied, right-hand drive Series 1.5 finished in period-perfect Opalescent Silver Blue with a dark blue leather interior. First registered new in November 1967, it was delivered to a Mr Alastair Gilchrist of Esher Surrey who owned it for eleven years. Staying in Surrey, it was then sold to John Lucas-Lucas and remained in his ownership for thirty-four years before being purchased by our vendor who's enjoyed this beautiful E-type for six years. Whilst in his care, he has continued to improve the Jaguar and as a result of his efforts, the car presents today in wonderful condition. He employed renowned Jaguar experts 'MC Wilkinson' to carry out extensive mechanical work to the engine, gearbox, clutch and brakes. This work totalled approximately ten thousand pounds and details can be found in the comprehensive history file. As recently as 2016 our vendor decided to carry out a full repaint, focussing on good panels gaps before respraying the car in its original colour. The door rubbers were replaced, the engine bay detailed, the brightwork re-chromed, the interior retrimmed, and the renovation was topped off with a brand new hood. A correct set of new Dunlop Aquajets was mounted on the chrome wire wheels and we understand the account for all this attention amounted to around twenty thousand pounds.

With this level of restoration, in a classic colour combination, and sensibly guided, this rare E-type really ticks all the boxes and should not be missed.

*Original UK-supplied right-hand drive Roadster

*Four owners from new

*Original colour

*Extensive recent renovation

Manufactured in 1967 during this transitional period, this UK-supplied 'Series 1½' was first registered new in November 1967 to a Mr Alastair Gilchrist of Esher, Surrey, who owned it for 11 years. It was then sold to another Surrey resident and remained in his ownership for 34 years before being purchased circa 2012 by the immediately preceding owner. The latter commissioned renowned marque specialists M & C Wilkinson of Everton to carry out extensive mechanical works to the engine, gearbox, clutch, and brakes at a cost of approximately £10,000, details of which can be found in the comprehensive history file.

More recently, in 2016, a re-spray was carried out in the car's original colour of Opalescent Silver Blue. Other works carried out at this time included replacing the door rubbers, detailing the engine bay, re-chroming the brightwork, re-trimming the interior in dark blue leather, and fitting a new hood. Finally, the chrome wire wheels were re-shod with a set of new and correct Dunlop Aquajet tyres. It is understood that the total cost of the aforementioned restoration works totalled around £20,000. As one would expect from such careful custodianship, the E-Type presents in beautiful condition today. The current vendor has owned the E-Type since May 2018. Combing the sublime looks of the original with the more powerful 4.2-litre engine and user-friendly all-synchromesh gearbox, these Series 1½ cars are among the most sought-after of all E-Types, especially in Roadster form, as exemplified by the fine example seen here.

Sold by Baytree Prestige and Performance Cars of Derby in October 2021. Abbreviated seller's description below.

www.baytreecars.com/vehicle-details/used-jaguar-e-type-4-2-for-sale-burnden-hous ...

This is an immaculate, low mileage 1967 E Type Series 1.5 finished in Opalescent Silver Blue with a Blue leather interior. An original Right Hand Drive UK registered vehicle, said to be just 1 of 320 Series 1 RHD cars, it has subtle syling tweaks and open headlights. In 2012 the vehicle received a full mechanical inspection with repairs to the engine and gearbox, new clutch and brakes were fitted by Jaguar specialists, M and C Wilkinson. The work cost over £10,000 and the invoices for this work are in the car's history file. In 2016 Doncaster Trimmers fully retrimmed the interior with all new leather seats, carpets, door panels and boot lining.

In early 2020 Riemans of Chester carried out an extensive list of work costing £23,000. The work done is as follows: new Tremec 5 speed gearbox including new clutch, master and slave cylinders and starter motor, cylinder head overhauled with uprated valve guides, uprated timing chain and tensioner fitted, carburettors refurbished and rebuilt, rear axle rebuilt to include differential seals, brakes, suspension trailing arms and axle mountings, replacement exhaust downpipes, replacement ball joints, suspension dampers and springs, replacement radial tyres, with suspension allignment set up and complete lubrication and ignition service.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
