For sale at Brightwells 23 November 2016
No reserve
www.brightwells.com/classic-motoring/auctions/classic-vintage-november-2016/cata ...
Supplied new by Sturgess of Leicester to first owner Mr RR Kerlsy of Earls Barton, Northants, in 1965, this particular E-Type had just owner from 1988 until earlier this year. Although there is no early history with the car, a large file of invoices show that some £4,000 has been spent on parts alone for maintenance and improvements since 1994. This has included a full engine rebuild with new pistons, oil pump, radiator etc, plus a new stainless steel exhaust system.
A letter on file from the previous owner states that the car has barely been used at all over the past 28 years, but mainly kept in storage as an investment. Said to be in good running order with an MOT until April 2017, it certainly ran well as we moved it around for these photos with excellent oil pressure which shoots straight to 60psi from cold and then settles to 30psi on warm tickover. However, the vendor does advise that although the radiator is new, the single fan is inadequate and the cowling is missing so he recommends that a more powerful Kenlowe-type fan be fitted before any long journeys are undertaken.
Appearing to be in reasonable condition throughout, it should be perfectly usable as it is once the cooling issue has been addressed, and can be gradually improved cosmetically as desired. Being offered here strictly 'as seen' and at no reserve, it could well prove a shrewd place to park some spare cash given the way that values of UK market Series 1 E-Types have accelerated relentlessly in recent years.
