Sale 16248 - Sports, Competition and Collectors’ Motor Cars, F1 Memorabilia, Automobilia and Models, 11 Jul 2008
Goodwood Festival of Speed, Chichester, Sussex

Lot No: 552

1967 Jaguar E-Type 4.2-Litre Lightweight Competition Coupé
Registration no. KBV 871F
Chassis no. 1E21640
Engine no. 7E141559

Estimate: £22,000 - 24,000

Footnote:
Left untouched in dry storage for 18 years, this lightened E-Type competition coupé was built for the owner of a Jaguar restoration company with no expense spared. The car has now been the subject of a full ‘last nut and bolt’ strip down and rebuild, bare metal re-spray and upgrade with modern racing parts where required. Far too lengthy to record fully here, details of its most impressive mechanical specification are available on request.
Highlights include a 4,235cc full race engine built by Ron Beatty/Forward Engineering using all new parts. These include the block, fully balanced and Tuftrided crankshaft, con rods, 9:1 high-compression pistons, fully gas flowed cylinder head, BG 450 high-lift camshafts, and aluminium crankshaft/water pump pulleys. The motor breathes via triple 48mm Dell’Ortos on a gas-flowed Lynx manifold, while the sparks are provided by a total loss Lucas Lumenition competition ignition complemented by an Omex rev limiter and shift indicator. A Warren Pearce six-branch manifold (thermal wrapped) exhausts the gasses via a sill-mounted side pipe with cover. A power output in excess of 300bhp is claimed, reaching the rear wheels via an AP racing clutch, close-ratio all-synchro four-speed gearbox and GKN Powr-Lok limited-slip differential with 3.54:1 final drive ratio.
The brakes have been up-rated and fully rebuilt including all master cylinders, three-pot calipers, solid discs and twin servos rebuilt by Paul Norton. Lowered and stiffened, the suspension incorporates race springs and new GAZ shocks to the front, new Koni coil-over shocks to the rear, and an adjustable front anti-roll bar and ride height reaction plate by Rob Beere. New Superflex bushes have been fitted throughout and the chassis professionally tracked and corner weighted with all caster and camber angles set. The car rolls on MWS competition wire wheels (plus similar spare) shod with new Goodyear 225/60R15 Eagle F1 tyres.
Professionally re-sprayed in white, the body consists of a lightened steel shell complete with alloy paneling; stripped out doors; GRP reinforced bonnet with side catches; and side windows, rear screen and light covers in FIA specification polycarbonate. The rear hatch is a custom moulded polycarbonate item incorporating cooling ducts for the inboard rear brakes. The original steel door is included, prepared, painted and fitted with polycarbonate screen in original Jaguar seal.
Inside, the car features a full roll cage and harnesses together with Kirkey (oval) driver’s and Cobra passenger’s racing seats (a spare Cobra race seat on adjustable runners for shorter drivers is supplied). We are advised that all scrutineers’ tweaks, transfers and internal/external power cut-off switches are fitted together with plumbed-in FIA fire extinguisher with internal/external pulls.
Track ready, with all fresh fluids and filters, this very well specified competition E-Type represents the opportunity to acquire a potentially most competitive drive, eligible for eligible for JDC, Proteus and many other historic race series. Offered with Swansea V5.
