This 1967 Jaguar XKE is a Series I coupe that was built in July 3, 1967 and distributed via Jaguar Cars of New York. It was purchased by the seller in Alaska in May 2011 and subsequently driven to California following a multi-day voyage on a ferry from Whittier, Alaska to Washington state. The car was refurbished under prior ownership and was repainted in red over black leather upholstery. Power is provided by a numbers-matching 4.2-liter inline-six mated to a four-speed manual transmission. Service performed under current ownership has included rebuilding the trio of SU carburetors, installing a Pertronix electronic ignition, refurbishing the fuel tank, adding Dayton wire wheels, and installing a Bell stainless-steel exhaust system, as well as replacing the front shocks, coolant hoses, brake master cylinder, and brake lines. This XKE is now offered in Texas with service records and parts receipts from current ownership, a handwritten maintenance log, manufacturer’s literature, a tool kit, a set of factory wire wheels and knock-off hubs, refurbishment photos, assorted spare parts, a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.

The body was stripped and refinished in Carmen Red under prior ownership. Exterior features include split chrome bumpers, chrome side mirrors, open headlights, and dual central exhaust exits.

Dayton 15″ chrome wire wheels with two-eared knock-off hubs are wrapped with 205/70 Cooper Trendsetter SE tires installed under current ownership. The seller refreshed the braking system with replacement front and rear lines, a replacement master cylinder and booster, replacement pads, and a fluid change in 2020. Additional service under current ownership is said to have included replacement of the U-joints, front shocks, steering-column bushings, and rear control-arm bushings, as well as chassis lubrication. Five removed factory wire wheels are included in the sale and can be viewed in the photo gallery below.

The interior is upholstered in black leather with matching door panels and carpeting. The seller reports installing Dynamat insulation in the floor pans and along the transmission tunnel. The aftermarket stereo head unit has an auxiliary input, and the speakers in the center console have been replaced.

The wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 5k-rpm redline, and center-mounted auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer displays 12k miles, approximately 4k of which have been added by the seller. The tachometer-integrated clock is inoperable.

The 4.2-liter DOHC inline-six was factory rated at 265 horsepower and 283 lb-ft of torque, and it is equipped with triple SU carburetors that were rebuilt under current ownership. Other work in the past 10 years has included installing a Bell stainless-steel exhaust system, a CoolCat radiator fan and motor, a high-torque starter, and Pertronix electronic ignition; rebuilding the fuel pump; replacing the spark plugs, wires, distributor cap, and rotor; checking the valve clearances; replacing the fluids; and flushing and cleaning the fuel tank. The seller notes evidence of an oil leak after long drives that is believed to originate from the rear of the engine.

Engine stamping 7E13906-9 matches the number listed on the under-hood identification plate and on the Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate.

Power is routed to the rear wheels via a four-speed synchromesh manual transmission. The seller notes areas of corrosion on underbody components.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
