Ebay item 12/21/14
www.ebay.com/itm/Jaguar-E-Type-Coupe-1967-jaguar-xke-series-1-5-coupe-restoratio ...
Current bid US $13,800, no reserve, 7 bids 6 days left in auction. 71k miiles.

Sellers description:
Car is numbers matching, completely disassembled and restoration is in progress; car is generally in sound condition with two areas of rust in floorboards and bonnet has minor dents on the front, caused during transport. Bonnet ductwork is partially detached on underside of bonnet. Engine is 90% cosmetically restored and has consistent compression readings of 148-150. IRS is under cosmetic restoration and fully functional. Tires and wire wheels are in excellent condition. Car is at an ideal point to decide what level restoration to pursue, color changes, exhaust header coating, etc.; just remove glass and it's ready for metal work and painting. Chrome is very sound and may not need to be resurfaced. Major parts (Body shell, engine, bonnet, IRS) are on dollies with casters. All small parts and fasteners are bagged and labeled.

I am the second owner and have had the car for over 25 years. I have been infatuated with XKEs since they first appeared and it took many years to actually acquire one. I continue to work on it periodically but have reached the realization that its unlikely I will be able to complete it. I also feel it's an ideal time to pass it on to some other Jag enthusiast while all the important decisions regarding level of restoration, color choices, exhaust header coating, etc. can still be made without redoing anything. The car was mechanically sound before disassembly so cosmetics were the main concern and my intent was to show the car.

The car was a European model, not intended for export to the US market but wound up here none the less. It was purchased from a noted foreign car dealership, The Stable, in Gladstone, NJ on Sept. 30, 1989.

At 12/08/15 - Car is currently undergoing body restoration. Floors and sills were poor, with some rust/damage to other parts of the shell too. Expect to have the car finished by spring 2016.

At 25/09/15 - The car is currently undergoing substantial body renovation in a workshop in Lincolnshire. After blasting the lower half of the shell, a number of rusty areas were discovered. New floors inner and outer sills and end panels are now in place and fully welded. The body preparation and paint (to original cream) will be carried out over the winter (2015/16) with a target date of May 2016 for being back on the road. A new bonnet is on order and the car has been converted to right hand drive using original parts from a donor car, along with triple 2" SU carbs. The interior trim will be replaced as well in its original black colour.

06/02/2016 - All structural welding is complete. Shell, doors, frames and new bonnet are at the paint shop being prepared for repaint in original cream. Suspension parts are blasted and either plated or painted in readiness for refitting.

15/12/16 - Car is now fully painted and almost fully assembled with the exception of the front screen and the exhaust. All the interior is completely renewed and re-trimmed in black as original, new S/S wheels and new tyres complete the outside looks... the completion date has slipped by quite a lot and the "on the road date" is now going to be spring 2017.

Work commitments have delayed progress somewhat but eventually the work was completed. The car was finished and certified road worthy in the UK in October 2017, there have been some ongoing adjustments to the car and of course the inevitable teething issues. But generally the car looks great and almost everyone that sees it comments on how beautiful it looks. Now its time to enjoy ownership and driving it.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
