Lot 23 at Brightwells of Leominster sale of Classic and Vintage Cars on 6th March 2019. Abbreviated catalogue description below.

OAN260E is a 1966 Series 1 Automatic 2+2 Coupe owned from new until 2011 by Lord Boyne and family of Burwarton Estate of Shropshire. It has fewer than 22,000 miles showing on the clock - a figure which is believed correct and can be explained, partly, by the fact that the good Lord also owned another E Type which he drove far more often.

The 19 MoT's on file date back to 1994 when the mileage shown was only 19,076 which indicates that fewer than 3,000 miles have been added in the past 25 years. During its time at Burwarton the car was maintained by Parkers Garage of Ditton Priors, and they are of the opinion that the indicated mileage is likely to be correct.

After being bought from the Boyne family, it found its way to the current owner's hands who intended restoring it. However, due to lack of time and space it is offered for sale in original and unmolested condition. It was supplied by Henlys London via dealers Hadley Green Garage in Hertfordshire. The Heritage Certificate confirms the car's original specification and that it is a matching numbers machine.

In 2001 Jaguar specialists CMC of Bridgnorth cured an engine problem. Following a 60 mile road test CMC reported the car as running perfectly. The last MoT was issued in October 2013 and recorded only two advisories; ineffective suspension arm dust cover and wobbly wheel bearing. The car has only covered 45 miles since.

Latterly kept in storage, the vendor advises that the car is currently a non runner although the engine does turn over. He advises that it will require a complete brake overhaul, attention to the fuel system and attention to some surface rust. He believes a new bonnet was fitted in the past.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
