Sold by Car-Iconics of Oakham in October 2023. Seller's description below.
www.car-iconics.com/product/e-type-series-2-4-2-ots/
E Type Series 2 OTS. 1969. Left Hand Drive. 25,917 miles. Supplied new at the end of 1969 and distributed by British Leyland New York, this lovely E Type spent the majority of its life in the State of Texas. The condition of the car is testament to the dry weather in that area and its low mileage, which whilst not totally traceable, is supported by the services invoices that accompany the car. Imported by the current owner in 2015, this E Type was subjected to a considerable recommission covering many components including: water pump, starter motor, brakes, engine mounts, bushes, ball joints, shocks, radiator, fans, hoses and fuel lines. Since that time it has covered a little over 3,000 miles and has recently had a gearbox overhaul. Presently in a mature and seductive colour combination of Regency Red over Tan interior, this E Type is sure to turn heads as well as be a joy to own.

On first approaching this E-Type it’s clear that its restoration work has been undertaken to a high standard. Finished in its original shade of Regency Red, the deep rich paint work contrasts beautifully against the car’s ample chrome adornments and tan trim.
The paintwork is generally in an excellent condition throughout, save there is a small area of slight micro blistering on the boot lid. Hardly noticeable as the paint surface is not broken. There is also a finger nail size touch-up of a paint chip on one edge of the boot lid. The body is free of any significant damage or corrosion. Furthermore, the shut lines of this E-Type appear straight and uniform with the car as a whole sitting very nicely on the road.
The tan soft top hood is in good condition and without any evidence of damage to the fabric or fittings. There is a very small slit in the rear screen. Sitting well on the car whilst in its raised position, it is only with the roof lowered that one can fully appreciate the beautiful profile of the open top E-Type.
On opening the beautifully contoured driver’s door and taking a seat behind the large iconic wood rimmed wheel, you are immediately transported back to an earlier more glamorous time, one where style and design could have free reign.
Trimmed in a beige perforated leather with matching carpets, the interior of this E-Type is a very special place to be. Presented in a very smart condition with only the mildest of patina, it’s great to see the original charm of this interior has been preserved during its restoration.
Additionally, being a Series 2 car, this example also benefits from much more comfortable seating for driver and passenger, featuring a reclining function, headrests, and seatbelts.
One of the very best features of the E-Type’s interior though has to undoubtedly be that iconic view down its long and shapely bonnet to the horizon and adventures that lay ahead.
The Mechanics
Glorious 4.2-litre straight six engine giving ample smooth and torquey performance
4-speed manual gearbox with synchromesh on all gears
Extensive recent renewals including starter motor, radiator, fans & water pump, alternator, engine mountings, radius arms (receipts for all such work, provided)
To note that the post-delivery-fitted air conditioning system has been removed.
Carefully lifting the E-Type’s large clamshell bonnet, one is treated to a sight of pure 1960s engineering excellence, presented here in a restored condition.
Featuring Jaguar’s glorious 4.2-litre straight-six engine, the Series 2 E-type benefits from the extra tractability offered by its larger capacity over its earlier 3.8-litre iteration. The E-Type still feels quick and powerful even by today’s standards and delivers its power in a smooth and refined manner.
Throughout the current, 10 year ownership, the owner has noted a slight whine of the gearbox main bearings when in neutral. This has not changed over the owner’s 5,000 miles of use, including a 400-mile trip to Holland a few weeks ago. The owner also notes that the Speedometer can be slow to return to zero - this usually corrects on longer runs when the car is warm.
