This 1970 Jaguar XKE is a Series II Roadster that was manufactured in December 1969 and was acquired by the current owner in October 2019. It is finished in silver with a black soft top over a black interior and is powered by a numbers-matching 4.2-liter inline-six mated with a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes a chrome luggage rack, 15” wire wheels, a wood-rimmed steering wheel with a quick-disconnect hub, and a push-button stereo. A repaint was carried out in 2020, while work performed in 2019 is said to include replacement of the clutch, exhaust system, shocks, belts, hoses, and fluids. This E-Type is offered on consignment by the selling dealer in Auburn Hills, Michigan with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, a black tonneau cover, a tool roll, manuals, and a clean Ohio title.
The car was finished in Silver from the factory and was repainted in January 2020, at which time the front side markers were deleted and their mounting holes filled. Exterior features include a black soft top, a chrome luggage rack, dual exhaust outlets, and chrome-finished bumpers with overriders. A black tonneau cover is included in the sale and a tear in the convertible top has been repaired.
Chrome-finished 15” wire wheels wear two-eared knock-off spinners and are mounted with Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. Stopping power is provided by power-assisted disc brakes with inboard-mounted rears. The shocks are said to have been replaced in 2019.
The cabin is trimmed in black leather upholstery and features a color-matched dash, door panels, and carpeting. A wood-rimmed steering wheel with a quick-disconnect hub is fitted and additional amenities include a push-button stereo, three-point seatbelts, and a locking glove compartment.
Smiths instrumentation consists of a 160-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 47k miles, approximately 1,300 of which were added by the current owner. Total mileage is unknown.
The 4.2-liter inline-six is equipped with dual Stromberg carburetors and was factory rated at 246 horsepower and 263 lb-ft of torque when new. Work performed in 2019 reportedly included replacement of the clutch and hydraulics, exhaust system, gaskets, ignition components, belts, hoses, and fluids.
Engine stamping 7R9574-9 matches the number listed on the chassis plate as well as the Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual gearbox. Corrosion is noted on the suspension components, and additional photos of the underside are shown in the gallery.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate lists a production date of December 9, 1969 along with the factory colors and serial numbers.
