Car to be at Coy's auction 7/09
www.coys.co.uk/auctions/lot.php

Auction description:
1968 Jaguar E-Type S1.5 Fixedhead Coupe
Lot 643
Registration Number: TBC
Chassis Number: R20003

Used by the current owner for over 20 years, this extremely well cared for example benefits from long term service by The Vintage Carriage Co. of Lingfield, Surrey. This small but extremely knowledgeable specialist vintage car engineering firm have been responsible for the long-term upkeep and modification of this handsome example and have acquitted themselves well. This car was the very first E-Type to be fitted with the now-widespread Getrag five speed gearbox; it also benefits from a modified and adjustable seat belt anchor as well as a Kenlow fan and Magnatronic electronic ignition. It was stripped back to bare metal in 1986 as part of a two-year process to restore it to ‘as new’ condition. It should also be mentioned that this was undertaken totally regardless of cost.

A comfortable patina now has settled over the car and complete with a full years MoT test certificate, this sound touring example will surely supply trouble free motoring for years to come.

Interested parties should note that the Registration number current supplied with the car is being retained and a new age-related number with be issued shortly.

Estimate: £18000 - £25000

This car was taken under the wing of The Vintage Carriage Company near Lingfield in Surrey for a comprehensive restoration..

The expression “nut and bolt restored” would apply to the job that was done – the history folder records hundreds of pages of handwritten job sheets that faithfully record the dismantling, rebuilding, repainting and re-upholstering of the car. And the current owner’s interest in progress is faithfully recorded in records of various visits as well as his input into the finished article – with detail like the fitment of the Getrag 5 speed gearbox and even down to the presentation of the GB badge, Union Jack and 4.2 litre badge on the tailgate.

The car has continued to deliver enjoyment and outstanding performance whether driven locally or on a long trip to France.

CORRECTIONS by the current owner.

NB: The car is the 3rd RHD Series 2 FHC off the production line.

The above information contains a few errors.
1)The coys auction 7/09 listed it as a series 1.5 and stated the 2 year restoration was 1986 ( both in the catalogue ! )
It is a series 2 and the restoration has extensive paperwork and photographs confirming it was in 1996.

2) The 10/10 advert shows it as LHD. It has always been in the UK and RHD.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
