Lot 2287 on Collecting Cars on line auction of Collectible Cars on 27 January 2021. Sold for £52,500. Abbreviated seller's description below.
www.collectingcars.com/for-sale/1968-jaguar-e-type-series-2-4-2-fhc
This Series 2 is a restored example of a British classic which presents well and is in strong mechanical order. Under the bonnet, the 4.2 litre straight six engine is paired to a four speed manual gearbox. The odometer displays 41,844 miles, though this cannot be warranted. First registered on 18 December 1968, this original RHD E Type was previously registered to the seller's father. During his long ownership a thorough restoration was undertaken and completed in 2014, the car passing to his son in 2016.
The seller describes it as in excellent condition, the bodywork is in good shape with the floors and sills replaced in 2014. The Blue paintwork has a smooth, glossy appearance, although there is some surface rust near the door seals where the paint has chipped. The window rubbers are sound but the door seals could be replaced. Further adding to the car's appeal is a Blue Webasto roof. The engine bay, underside and suspension all present well and are testament to the restoration and subsequent careful storage and maintenance.
Retrimmed in Grey leather with blue piping, the interior provides an attractive contrast and exhibits only minor wear including some trim behind the driver's seat that has become detatched, damage to the leather on the driver's door card and paint damage to the shut panel on the passenger door. This Series 2 is a smart example of this sought after sports car, which benefits from a recent restoration and is presented in an attractive colour combination. Though there are minor imperfections the car presents in great shape.
