Seen on eBay. Ad reads:

The car looks good and runs great! However, after 15 years of ownership its time for someone else to enjoy owning this classic. The fixed head coupe has undergone extensive professional mechanical and body renovation with over $20,000 in total expenditures. The engine has been rebuilt and has less than 6000 accumulated miles. The brakes, engine cooling and electrical systems have been rebuilt or repaired and are trouble free. The undercarriage has been restored with the installation of new sills and floor pans. Most of the body chrome has been replaced or re-plated and the car has been painted a beautiful Signal Red. New black Wilton carpeting and Connolly leather seats have been installed in the cockpit area along with new vinyl door paneling and sill coverings. The dash, rear deck, headliner and rear side panels are all original and are in fair to acceptable condition. A section of the underdash hardura has been purchased but not installed. Some of the directional air flow fins and louvers in the underdash air conditioning vent are missing. Other flaws in the interior include a tear in the driver’s seat back and some worn beading around the windows and rear deck side panels. The speedometer which has been rebuilt no longer registers the 60,000+ miles shown when purchased. The clock and after market radio do not work. The original generator/alternator is included in the sale but has been replaced by a comparable GM unit. The windshield washer pump unit is missing. The air conditioner works but should be recharged. Exterior flaws include small chips in the paint around the rear hatch and blemishes around the fins on the hood. The wire wheels have not been re-chromed but only one shows some peeling. This is a beautiful car which is thought to require only limited additional restoration work to bring to a totally acceptable finished condition.

Car returns to ebay 8/16/10

Current bid $11,100 reserve not met, 7 bids 5 days left in auction. Car now said to be in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Sellers description:
This is a matching numbers 1969 E-Type coupe in great condition as the pictures indicate. The Signal Red Jaguar paint has a gorgeous, high gloss. Every aspect of the car has been addressed since I purchased it in Texas in 2003. I am the third owner.

The engine has great compression, no oil leaks, no smoke and exudes power. Transmission shifts easily. Carburetors were tuned six months ago. Odometer reads 28,168 but repair records show that the odometer was repaired in 1988. Based on the records and the car’s condition, I estimate the total mileage to be 66,000. I have driven the car 1,670 miles since 2003. Tires have about 80% of tread remaining.

A partial list of restoration work with new parts includes: Petronix electronic ignition, distributor cap, ignition switch, headlights, plug wires, front and rear suspension bushings, front and rear shocks, front brake lines, lower steering u-joint, Jaguar correct covering on rear floor and an Alpine AM/FM Radio and CD player. Additional restoration includes rebuilt rack and pinion steering assembly, radiator fans (2), and master clutch cylinder. I have saved the original parts that have been replaced.

There are only a few minor issues to be addressed: very small heat bubbles on left louvers of bonnet (see picture); one wheel has surface rust on interior hub portion; factory AC works, but needs a recharge; dime-sized defect on left rear wheel well (see picture).

The interior is in excellent condition: dash, console, leather seats with no tears, patches or splits. All instruments work, except the clock. With the car are the Owner’s Manual, Repair Manual, a Jaguar tool roll with tools, jack and jack bag, car dust cover, 31 years of repair records (catalogued by date), pictorial record of repairs and three Jaguar books.

This is a magnificent driving machine that I part with reluctantly, but it’s time to pass the torch.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
