Car returns to ebay 7/9/12
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll
Opening bid $40,000, no reserve no bids 4 days left in auction. Buy it now price $42,500. Car now said to be in Cold Spring Harbor, New York. 70k miles.

Sellers description:
I bought this 1969 fixed head coupe about five years ago aswhat I hoped was a driver that I could use and enjoy and work on as needed. Unfortunately I really could not live with it and started down the road torestoration. Endless hours and a pile of money later this is what I ended upwith. The car is an original California black plate car that I purchased from the west coast. Being a virtually rust free car provided a great base for all the work that was done, short of some minor damage and dents the car has all its original sheet metal, matching engine and transmission and body. I replaced the picture frame as it was quite bent up from a previous engine removal, the replacement is not numbered as it is not original. Originally painted British racing green, as it is today, with black leather interior, 4 spd transmission. This car has no air conditioning and is as close to original as I could keep it. The paint was done professionally with epoxy primer, primer fillers, andfinally sprayed with Glasurit solid color. The chrome on the car is original and in excellent condition, I did replace a couple small chrome pieces but everything else is a quality factory fit piece. I used as many original jaguar parts as possible in the restoration. Parts that went into this car were correct and of the highest quality available. Here is what I did.

The car was stripped of all its parts and the body was chemically stripped of all paint and plastic filler. The original factory undercoating on the tub floor was left as there was no rust or damage to repair. The fire wall was media blasted as were the hood and frame rails, all drive and suspension components were either stripped or blasted to bare metal. All parts that were originally plated were redone in zinc plating, as was all hardware that was salvageable. All the pieces were put back in their original style finish.

The suspension has been rebushed and all joints, and pivot points have been renewed front and back. The rear end was disassembled and inspected with new seals outer bearings fitted, then repainted to its factory correct color. The rear subframe was stripped and powder coated, axels were rebuild with quality joints and painted while hubs were bead blasted and new bearings installed, New inner brake disks fitted as well as rebuild brake calipers fitted with SS pistons. All drive splines show no wear. Limited slipworks correctly. The transmission was rebuilt with new bearings, synchros, synchro hub spring detents, and seals. Unfortunately this has yielded a first gear popout under decal that has been traced to faulty bearing clearances on the mainshaft. I have a later 71 etype gear box that will be included as I will not fix this as it really has not been an issue for me. The clutch assembly is new as is the throwout bearing, pilot bearing and resurfaced flywheel. Main Drive shaft rebuilt. The front brake calipers have also been rebuilt with SS pistons. All brake lines and hoses have been replaced, as have all brake and clutch hydraulics. The car rides on new Dayton 6 inch tubeless, stainless steel spoked rims of the correct style and new knockoffs are fitted.

The engine is the original 9:1 engine. The block has been boiled and bored to +.020 over with new freeze plugs and hepolite pistons fitted. The crank shaft has been cut -.010 under on the rod and mains, all sludge trap plugs were removed and the crank was thoroughly cleaned. All head studs removed and threads chased, all block threads chased. New vanderville bearings fitted, newoil pump, new up graded XJ6 rod bolts and nuts, new timing gear wheels and chain. Head has been skimmed .010" with new valve and valve guides, recut seats, All tappet guides are tight and all is in spec. The exhaust is new stainless steel from manifolds back.

The engine was fitted with 1967 etype tri-carbs by previous owner, as it is presently these carbs are polished and function great. All linkages are tight and correct. The distributor has been replaced with a Mallory Unilite with mechanical advance. Alternator is rebuilt and correct for this car. Starter is original and has no issues. All hoses are new and where possible the original clamps were used. There are new SS coolant lines behind the bulkhead as well. I have not detailed some of the switches and minor items, a job for someone else I guess. All rubber is new as is the windscreen, The Car has scored 99.3 over the last several years at the Jaguar club events in D2 class and is a great drive.

The interior has new leather seats and a full new interior kit fitted. All gauges work, although the clock stopped recently and may need a new battery. All wiring harnesses from the fuse panel forward are new. A lot of attention to detail went into this restoration and the car is a great choice for future concouse competition if one wants to go down that road. This car just did a 180 mile trip out to the Hamptons in 95 degree weather and ran flawlessly.

*Presented in the factory-delivered color combination and matching chassis, engine, and gearbox

*Excellent example for rallies and tours, such as the Copperstate 1000

*Offered with CA black plates, tools, and JCNA Heritage Certificate

According to its Jaguar Heritage Certificate, the Series II offered here was manufactured on March 3rd, 1969, with the chassis, engine, and gearbox it still bears to this day. Originally distributed through British Leyland in New York, the car wore British Racing Green on the exterior and Black on the interior – colors it still wears today following a high-quality restoration from its caring former owner, a certain Mr. Peter Brinkwart.

Through the book describing the whole restoration process, we learned that this New York enthusiast purchased the car from California with its original black plates, shortly after which he decided to undertake its restoration and preservation.

Through the process of the entire deconstruction of the car, it was noticed that the car was exempt from any rust, which leads us to think the car stayed in California all its life prior to Mr. Brinkwart's purchase. From there, all parts were treated and put back to like-new condition, with the objective of keeping as many original parts and hardware as possible. Suspensions, brakes, gearbox, and main shaft were all entirely rebuilt, while the engine was gifted with a 1967 tri-SU carburetor setup, as well as a Mallory Unilite distributor, and new hoses. The interior was also treated with new leather and an entire interior kit.

Under Mr. Brinkwart's ownership, the car was taken to a few JCNA meetings and concours, from which an official Judging Score Sheet remains, showing an impressive score of 996.8 points. Following its purchase in 2012, the current seller decided to show the car at the 2014 Ironstone Concours in Northern California, where the car received an Award of Merit.

The car is accompanied by its original black CA plates, book partially describing the restoration process of the car, work receipts, its Jaguar Heritage Certificate, and original tools. After a ten years ownership, this superb Series II E-Type FHC is ready for a new home and lucky owner!
