Ebay item 4/28/11
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1969-Jaguar-xke-coupe-2-2-project-/170633350859
Current bid $2,302, no reserve, 7 bids 5 days left in auction. 65k miles.

Sellers description:
1969 jaguar xke coupe 2+2, this car needs restoration. The engine was was tested and works well, no leaks or problems with it at all. The body needs the front and back floor boards. The bonnet has a dent in the front but is solid and in very good condition. the doors have no rust and are in very good condition as well. The back end of the car is also in good shape. I payed a garage to begin the engine work which is why the motor and transmission was removed, for them to do the work such as breaks the body work would need to be done first or this is what they told me. I went to four body shops and three were booked out with work and the fourth said that the car must be running for them to work on it. I have found that only certain body shops will even take these cars, which is disappointing, because these are very nice cars, not even the jaguar dealership would take the car and they explained that my xke was not the only one they would or could not repair.

I put a great deal of time an effort into retrieving this vehicle, they are rare and very beautiful vehicles. Aside from the body and floors the interior of the car must be redone, the dash is all there but does need to be repaired, the transmission was removed with the engine but that was good as well, no leaks or problems with that. the car is a matching numbers car meaning this is the original engine the car cam with and it only has 65,885 miles on it which is fairly low. The car had been parked in a storage barn for the past 20 or so years and only had one owner as far as I know., there is a box that has alot of engine parts, pipes etc inside, which is included in the auction, all the electrical for this car harness, wiring etc will have to be done over, from the estimates and of mechanics and body shops to have the car on the road in good condition will cost about 15 to twenty thousand dollars which is fairly inexpensive when usually to restore an xke of this year is 50,000. All the glass for the car is good but the rubber that is around the glass needs to be redone as well., the drivers side passenger window is in the trunk with leather lining for the doors which is in fairly good condition. The rims and chrome need to be re painted, they are not rusted out, but they do need to be re dipped which is very cheap to do. . The car will need front and back brakes as well.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
