Sellers description:
1970 JAGUAR XKE 2+2 BURGUNDY, BODY COMPLETELY RESTORED: This is a good example of the XKE in Burgundy with Tan interior. The classic lines of this car come through clearly with a recent total body restoration. While the body is EXCELLENT and needs no additional work, the mechanicals are good and the interior is fair. Engine runs well and is leak free. The exhaust is solid. 4 speed transmission shifts smoothly. While the interior is in fair condition, it may need some work. Front and back seats are in good condition. Rear carpets are good, front carpets are missing due to replacing floor pans during body work.

I inspected this car 12 Nov 12 for a client. The paintwork is very shiny and hides a multitude of sins. The seller is a very fair guy running a busy high-end sales operation who took this in part exchange. Classics are not his business and he did not realise how bad the car is in many respects. It is a running project car which may run a while longer but needs massive TLC and some major body repairs (unless you like extra footwells on a 2+2 and hidden corrosion). Caveat Emptor.

Car has a buy it now price of $33,995 for 20 days, one offer. Car now said to be in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Sellers description:
Covering it in stunning burgundy metallic paint only enhances the mouth-watering look and it's really hard to resist running your fingertips along the sinuous flanks of this sleek cat. Paint and bodywork are quite nicely done and it helped that the car underneath was in really good shape to begin with, so no major surgery was required. The massive forward-tilting hood (OK, bonnet) fits well, the doors have a light, effortless feel and close with a pleasant sound, and the gaps are quite good throughout, so someone spent the time to line it all up properly. The two-stage urethane paint is impossibly glossy, perfectly suitable to a car like this, and the metallic underneath gives it a wonderful glow. Chrome is well-placed and restrained, but elegant, and you'll note that the bumpers fit flush to the bodywork, the trim around the windows shine up nicely, and there are four shiny exhaust pipes poking out from under the rear bumper. This car simply doesn't have a bad angle.

Inside, tan leather is fitted and nothing looks more British than that. Recent seat covers look great and have just a bit of patina that makes them even more attractive than simple perfection, and the door panels, rear seat, and cargo area are all upholstered to match. The thin wood-rimmed steering wheel dances in your hands when you're driving hard, but on long-distance cruises, a task to which this car is ideally suited, it's relaxing and easy. Driving enthusiasts will be delighted to see the 4-speed manual shifter in the center instead of the automatic, and the classic, elegant, and simple Smiths gauges remind you that this isn't an average car. A modern AM/FM/CD/iPod stereo has been fitted to make driving even more delightful, but you'll quickly learn that the engine note is a better tune.

This 1970 Jaguar XKE is a 2+2 coupe which is finished in dark metallic red over biscuit leather and powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. The seller acquired the car in 2014 and has driven it approximately 1,500 miles since as well as replacing the tires, clutch slave cylinder, front end components, the rear hatch glass, and more. This XKE is offered with recent service records, spare parts, a tool kit, and a clean North Carolina title in the seller’s name.

Body panels wear a metallic burgundy finish accented by chrome bumpers and bright window trim. Damage to the hood was repaired and its fit was adjusted in 2014, with a slightly differing shade of paint visible in photos. The rear hatch glass was reportedly replaced in June 2019.

Wire wheels were mounted with new 15″ Vredestein Sprint Classic tires under current ownership. The front end was overhauled with new shocks, tie rods, ball joints, and sway bar bushings in 2014, at which point the right side frame was also replaced and cracks in the radiator support were repaired.

The interior is upholstered in biscuit leather, which shows creasing on the seats and cracks on the center armrest. The stock radio has been removed, and aluminum trim has been affixed to the center console in its place. Shoulder belts are fitted front seat occupants, while shoulder belts have been installed in the rear.

Smiths instrumentation resides ahead of a wood-rimmed steering wheel and includes a 160-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and gauges for water temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and voltage. The five-digit odometer shows just over 85k miles, with actual mileage unknown.

The 4.2-liter inline-six sends power to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission. The alternator and relay, ignition coil, clutch slave cylinder, and fluid reservoir were replaced and the carburetor was repaired along with wiring for the charging and cooling systems in 2016. Earlier electrical work in 2014 included replacement of the starter cable, spark plugs, battery, and distributor cap. An oil change is said to have been carried within the last year/300 miles.

The car is supplied with a tool kit, a spare wheel, receipts for service under current ownership, and spare parts such as an additional steering wheel.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
