Presented in a striking triple black color combination, this 1969 Jaguar E-Type Series 2 Roadster commands attention like few others with a sexy shape that could only have come from the house of Coventry. Powered by a 4.2L DOHC inline 6-cylinder engine and 4-speed manual transmission, the interior is appointed with an updated radio and Moto-Lita steering wheel. The Haartz cloth soft top lends a touch of elegance and texture over and above what the car delivers naturally. An E-Type like this is one of those cars so many promised themselves decades ago and have yet to make good on. Imagining this sleek black machine cruising down the road, light glinting off the chrome wire wheels and the engine and exhaust making that signature sound, it gives new meaning to the word dreamy. This particular example offers a unique opportunity to acquire one in the desirable triple black motif, which is a rarely seen color combination on any Jaguar E-Type Roadster.

Lot #187942
This 1969 Jaguar XKE Series II roadster was acquired by the current owner around 2021, and over $18k of work since 2023 has involved rebuilding the carburetors, installing a stainless-steel exhaust system, and replacing the clutch hydraulic cylinders, heater control valve, ignition components, water pump, alternator, starter, and suspension and brake parts. The car is finished in black over black leather and is powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six linked with a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. Equipment includes a black soft top, a louvered clamshell hood, four-wheel disc brakes, 15″ wire wheels, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, and a digital stereo with Bluetooth. This XKE roadster is now offered by the seller on behalf of the current owner with recent service records, a car cover, and a clean North Carolina title in the owner’s name.
The car is finished in black, and exterior equipment includes a black soft top, glass-covered headlights, dual side mirrors, wraparound chrome bumpers, bright trim, a louvered clamshell hood, and dual exhaust outlets. The windshield wipers are inoperative.
The chrome 15″ wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-offs and are mounted with 205/70 Tiger Paw tires. Braking is provided by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors. Work in 2023 involved replacing the brake booster, flex hose, and rear pads and rotors along with rebuilding the parking brake calipers. The ball joints, outer tie rods, steering rack mounts and boots, control arm bushings, and sway bar bushings were replaced at that time and the stub axles were resealed.
The cabin features bucket seats upholstered in black leather along with a color-coordinated center console, door panels, and carpets. Interior appointments include a digital stereo with Bluetooth, lap belts, and a locking glovebox.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 5k-rpm redline as well as an analog clock and gauges for voltage, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows under 60k miles, approximately 2k of which were added under current ownership.
The 4.2-liter inline-six was factory equipped with dual Zenith-Stromberg carburetors and rated at 246 horsepower and 263 lb-ft of torque when new. The carburetors were rebuilt in 2023, and a tune-up was performed, including replacement of the distributor cap and rotor, spark plugs, ignition wires, and ignition coil. Additional work consisted of replacing the heater control valve, fuel filter and lines, cooling hoses, water pump, starter, and alternator.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The transmission output seal and differential pinion seal were replaced during the aforementioned service and replacement driveshaft U-joints were installed. A stainless-steel exhaust system was fitted in 2024.
