Additional information from above auction:
1974 Jaguar E-Type V12 Manual Roadster, the property of Steve Parrish
Registration Number: TBA
Chassis Number: 1S2407
Engine Number: 7S13127SA
By 1971, Jaguar's jaw-dropping E-Type had been in production for a decade. Despite continual improvements, new emissions legislation in the all-important American market threatened to strangle the big cat's performance. Jaguar responded by giving its revered sports car new claws in the shape of a 5343cc V12 developed from the still-born XJ13 Le Mans project car. The new engine was both effortlessly powerful and eerily smooth. With some 272bhp on tap, the Series III E-Type once again had 150mph in its sights. A revised wheelbase yielded better cabin space and together with wider tracks front and rear and new anti-dive front suspension geometry and wider tyres gave improved road-holding.
The property of motorcycle-turned-truck racer Steve Parrish, this well-known E-Type carried one of Steve’s cheeky pair of registration numbers, 6 OCK the pairing to registration PEN 15. Finished in gloss black with a black hood, the bodywork is very good throughout, with just a few signs of the regular road use it has had. The chromework is believed to be original and is good overall and the exterior of the car is set off by a set a chrome wire wheels with white-band tyres. Whilst not a concours car, it is nevertheless a very tidy useable example and ran well from cold on our recent visit. Whilst not guaranteed the odometer shows just over 51,600 miles and the interior, in cream leather is in good order. Extras include a cream leather tonneau. Currently MOT tested, the car is taxed until March 2005 and offers the opportunity to acquire a manual V12 E-type roadster with celebrity racer provenance.
Estimate: £22,000-£25,000
Result: £20750

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
