Ebay item 11/29/04
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll
Current bid $15,005, no reserve, 4 bids, 6 days left in auction.
Sellers description:
THIS IS THE CROWN JEWEL OF ANY JAGUAR COLLECTION!
THIS CAR IS THE CATS MEOW..... THE WOW!!! IN THE DOGS BOW WOW!
I HAVE DRIVEN THESE CARS SINCE THE 60's AND I AM PASSIONATE ABOUT OLD JAGS. I CURRENTLY OWN 3. I AM NOT A DEALER NOR DO I DO THIS FOR ANYTHING BUT FUN. I BOUGHT THIS CAR IN JULY AND WHEN I WENT TO SEE IT, I HAD NO IDEA THAT THIS IS WHAT I WAS GOING TO SEE. THIS IS VIRTUALLY AN ORGINAL CAR. THE PAINT IS 95% ORGINAL (ONLY A FEW TOUCHED UP PLACES). IT HAS THE ORGINAL RADIO AND IT WORKS! THE INTERIOR IS THE ORGINIAL INTERIOR. THE CARPETS ARE ORIGINAL MOST OF THE HOSES ARE ORGINAL AS ARE MOST OF THE HOSE CLAMPS. THE BALL JOINTS ARE ORGINAL AND SPORT THE FACTORY WIRE TIES ON THE DUST BOOT. THE BRAKE CALIPERS HAVE NEVER BEEN OPENED AND STILL SPORT THE ORGINAL WIRE SAFTY TIES ON THE BOLTS. NOT ONLY THAT THE CAR HAS PROVENANCE! INCLUDED IS THE ORGINAL OWNERS PASS PORT TO SERVICE COMPLETE WITH THE METAL OWNERS STAMP, OWNERS MANUAL AND MOST ALL OF THE RECIEPTS FOR SERVICE SINCE NEW. THIS CAR IS WELL DOCUMENTED COMPLETE WITH A NARATION FROM THE GENTLEMAN THAT OWNED THIS CAR FOR OVER 32 YEARS!
THE CAR WAS MANUFACTURED IN AUGUST OF 1970 AND SOLD IN 1971. THUS THE YEAR ON THE TITLE IS 1971
THIS IS A TWO OWNER CAR (NOT INCLUDING ME). THE PREVIOUS OWNER BOUGHT THE CAR WITH AROUND 3,000 MILES ON IT AND IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN GARAGED.
I AM SO TORN ABOUT SELLING IT. I AM TOTALLY NOT INTO TRAILER QUEENS BUT IF THERE WAS EVER A REASON FOR ONE....... THIS IS IT!! I CAN NOT HELP IT.... I HAVE TO DRIVE IT! IT IS SUCH A JOY TO DRIVE AND SO TIGHT! THIS CAR SHOULD ONLY BE DRIVEN SPARINGLY. LOOK.... ANYBODY CAN RESTORE A CAR.... BUT.... THEY ARE ONLY ORGINAL ONCE. THIS CAR HAS MANY OF THE ORGINAL STICK ON LABELS UNDER THE BONNETT. THIS CAR SHOULD BE KEPT IN THE CONDITION IT IS IN NOW SO I AM LOOKING FOR A NEW HOME FOR IT CAUSE I WILL USE IT. I HAVE ALREADY PUT OVER 2,000 MILES ON IT.... I FEEL GUILTY FOR THAT.... BUT I CAN'T HELP IT! IT IS LIKE AN ADDICTION..... I GOTTA DO IT!
THIS IS A REALLY GREAT ORGINAL 33 YEAR OLD XKE.
THE PAINT IS EXCELLENT FOR ITS AGE. NOT PERFECT,,,, THERE ARE SCRATCHES AND DINGS IN THE PAINT. AS WELL THERE IS A LITTLE PAINT WORK AROUND THE DRIVERS SIDE LIGHT ( I WOULD PROB RE-WORK THAT AREA). BUT FOR ITS AGE YOU WOULD BE HARD PRESSED TO FIND AN ORGINAL PAINT JOB THIS NICE. I WILL PUT IT THIS WAY. I GO TO SHOWS AND AUCTIONS LIKE BARRETT JACKSON ALL OVER THE COUNTRY AND I HAVE NEVER SEEN AN ORGINAL XKE THIS NICE IN OVER 25 YEARS. THIS IS ONE OF THE NICEST IF NOT THE NICEST UNRESTORED SERIES II THAT YOU WILL FIND ANYWHERE. IS IT PERFECT? NO.......BUT HECK..... WHEN I WAS 34 I HAD A FEW IMPERFECTIONS MYSELF....
WHEN I GOT THE CAR, I CLEANED IT IN AND OUT. I CLEANED AND RE-DYED THE INTERIOR AND RE-STUFFED THE HEAD REST. ANY BRACKETS OR FINDINGS ON THE ENGINE THAT NEEDED IT WERE TAKEN OFF AND PAINTED TO THE ORGINAL COLORS. THIS INCLUDED THE RADIATOR. THE UNDERCOATING WAS FAILING IN THE WHEEL WELL SO I RE-COATED THEM UNDER THE BONNET. IN ALL CASES I WAS AS UN-INTRUSIVE AS POSSIBLE AS TO PERSERVE THE INTEGRITY OF THE ORGINAL STATE OF THE CAR. THIS IS A RARE OPPORTUNITY TO OWN A GREAT ORGINAL, LOW MILAGE, DOCUMENTED XKE OTS. IT WILL BE A LONG TIME BEFORE ANOTHER ONE LIKE THIS IS UP FOR SALE.

Previous auction ended at $31,600, no reserve, after 28 bids. Car is still in the same location so apparently it didn't sell.

I bought this cat in March from a wonderful guy and enthusiast in Richmond, VA. It has been on ebay many times before, but no one really valued the uniqueness of this beauty. She is all original, extremly well documented, in excellent condition and just a fun to drive. And she has got the original patina, restored cars will never get...
She is now in Germany and I will try to keep her as long as possible in this unique original condition. Maybe many of you won't like her colour Ascot Fawn, but hey guys, that makes you different from all these other brg's, signal red's etc. And could you imagine any better colour for an all original 70ies car ??? You see :-)

Before I shipped this car to its current owner in Germany I took it by for Dick Pilcher (world renown xke expert) to see, his comment to me was he thought the car had never seen rain and thought it was a "real find". To this day I still have pangs in my heart for letting her go.... But I have 3 other old jags and she will be better served being in her new home (because I would drive her too much). The guy that bought her knew his stuff. He spent a whole day inspecting the car. I am so confident that he will pamper her and keep her like she is. He had traveled all over Europe and the USA to find a special XKE. She is indeed a rare cat!

Jaguar E-Type (1970)

Beschreibung

Brief history from the second owner, written and signed by him on July 7, 2004
This automobile was purchased new by John Penland in early summer, 1972 at the Jaguar dealership in Greensboro, North Carolina. At the time I purchased it he had moved to Roanoke, Virginia and had accumulated less than 3,000 miles. Discovering that his young wife was pregnant, and the need that presented for a different type of vehicle, he advertised it for sale in the Roanoke Times newspaper. Visiting with my parents in Roanoke I saw the ad and contacted him on a Saturday afternoon. He had only one other possible buyer at that time. I offered to buy it, saying I needed an answer no later than noon on the following day. I took possession of the automobile on Sunday afternoon in early August 1972 and drove it to my home in Richmond, Virginia.
The automobile has been in my continuous possession since that date, driven only by me and continuously garaged.
It has never been involved in any type of accident, major or minor. This car is just about totally original. It has the original paint, carpet, and interior. Except for routine maintenance and the changes outlined in the most recent work done in April of this year (2004) it is pretty much unmolested. It was maintained at the Richmond, Virginia Jaguar dealer – Mooers Motor Company - during the first several years of ownership, with work performed by Dick Pilcher and Wally Groom. In later years, after he had left Mooers, Wally Groom performed the maintenance independently.
In the following years I have lived in eastern, central, and northern Virginia for various periods of time in connection with my employment. The auto has been regularly inspected and serviced at intervals suggested by the manufacturer. I have personally performed small tasks (oil and filter changes, air filters, carburetor servicing, etc.).
When delivered, the automobile was equipped with Dunlop tires, which I replaced at about 20,000 miles with Bridgestones. The vehicle sat idle for nearly two years in my garage until recently. A complete mechanical reconditioning was performed by Bruce Woodson (Mercer and Woodson, 6901 Lakeside Avenue, Richmond, Virginia) in April 2004. As part of a job to place it excellent condition the tires were replaced with Michelin Red Lines in April 2004. (An invoice of these extensive repairs is included with the title.) The mileage shown on the odometer of 33,000 miles is correct as of this date. I have always had at least 3-4 cars in my possession at all times and this car was only used for pleasure and social events.
To the best of my knowledge there are no known problems with the vehicle in its current condition, other than minor items. It’s being sold, as is, with no warranty expressed or implied.
