Robin Sturgess competition car, then partly demolished by the mafia in the film "The Italian Job". The car was restored by Phil Porter. A picture of the car during restoration can be found in the April/May 1991 Jaguar Quarterly E Type 30th anniversary issue.

Info gathered with permission from:
www.hendi.nl/xke/main.htm

850012 was reported as having been used in competition by Robin Sturgess, registered as 2 BBC. The car was used in the movie "The Italian Job", and was badly damaged. In 1991, it was reported to be under restoration.

I loved the last clip but unfortunately it or better the person who uploaded this clip was removed / excluded from youtube.

And I have searched the whole site through but could not find a dublicate of the clip..... :(

And I would love to obtain both, the last the one before on DVD....

Great car(s)

Love to see that last mentioned video from Top Gear; shame youtube have to remove it. I don't recall ever seeing 848 CRY being shown on any Top Gear episode bar from the early 90s with Quentin Willson driving it for a Top Gear special (some of the scenes which were later used in the Car's the Star E-Type episode as mentioned above); not sure if it's the same episode or a different one. I know that on Eagle's website there is a photo of the car being filmed by a crew, presumable from said episode.

Correction: I believe the photo from the Top Gear episode with the crew can be seen on theItalianJob.com website, not Eagle as previously stated. Looks like an early-mid 90s episode with Quentin Willson.

There is a shot of Robin Sturgess racing 2 BBC, an OTS, at Silverstone in October 1961, on page 115 of THE JAGUAR XK SERIES by Jeremy Boyce.

There is also shot of Sturgess at Oulton Park in Spring 1962, on page 226 of Andrew Whyte's tome JAGUAR SPORTS RACING & WORKS COMPETITION CARS FROM 1954. But this time 2 BBC is a FHC !

Perhaps this version was never road registered? Anyone any ideas?

Seller's description:

1962 JAGUAR E-TYPE COMPETITION '2 BBC' - ONE THE MOST SUCCESSFUL AND SIGNIFICANT EARLY RACING E-TYPES - A UNIQUE ENTRY FOR GOODWOOD

For the first time in 60 years, the famous ‘2 BBC’ FHC Competition E-type is publicly available.

Race-prepared for Jaguar racer and dealer Robin Sturgess, the car would take the 1962 British racing season by storm, beating many of the great names in the latest Aston Martin DB4GT Zagatos, and Ferraris 250SWB and GTOs. In 1962 alone, Sturgess and '2 BBC' came home with 12 victories and 10 further podiums – a record surely not matched by any other top-flight GT car of the period in a single year.

Today the car is race-ready and a potential winner in pre-63 or the Kinrara Trophy, and complete with its original engine and close-ratio gearbox in the spares package. Very rarely does such a successful and significant early specification competition E-type come to market.

Please contact us for more details on this incredibly successful and original competition E-type.

The photos of the RHD FHC should be moved to the appropriate category. Robin Sturgess transferred '2BBC' from 850012 when sold in 1962, to his FHC (ch. no.?) and continued racing. 850012 then became '848CRY' and achieved more fame when used in 'The Italian Job'. Car owned and eventually restored by Phillip Porter.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
