    Car listed as sold at:

    classicmotorhub.com/showroom/1963-jaguar-e-type-3-8-roadster/

    Seller's description:

    1963 Jaguar E-Type 3.8 Roadster

This Jaguar E-Type 3.8 Roadster for sale at the Classic Motor Hub was delivered new through Henlys of London to its first owner Bendall & Company in June 1963. Originally the car was Carmen Red with Red interior and a black roof, a specification it retains to this day with the exception of the hood that is brand new and finished in Fawn. The first few years of 69 GLR’s life are unknown but an invoice on file dated February 1975 shows the car being bought by the current owner’s uncle for £400! A number of MOT’s from the early to mid 1980’s show that the car was used sparingly. According to the current owner, the car didn’t see a huge amount of use from the mid-80’s until about 2008/9 when the decision was taken to refresh the car. Work began with a strip down and respray, unfortunately the owners poor health got in the way of the project and the car sat for a few years in the garage in a partially dismantled but freshly painted state.

The current owner approached his uncle in 2015 and offered to buy the car from him to keep it in the family and finish the job. After purchasing the car he took it to a Jaguar Specialist and the mission to return 69 GLR to her former glory began. The engine was removed and sent off to be rebuilt with the head converted to unleaded specification. The front suspension was overhauled with new bushes, dampers, track rod ends and ballpins. The steering column was removed and the upper and lower bushes replaced. The rear axle was stripped and rebuilt including new subframe mountings, new brake discs and calipers and new radius arms. Other works included a new clutch along with new master and slave cylinders. Alongside the mechanical work the hood, hood mechanism and the boot trim were rebuilt/replaced by The Trim Centre who specialise in Jaguar trim. The rest of the trim was left as it is believed to be the original trim on the seats and doors and is in lovely patinated condition.

Once complete the car was used for high days and holidays by the current owner, a close friend of the Classic Motor Hub. Today this fabulous Jaguar E-Type Roadster for sale at the Classic Motor Hub presents in lovely honest condition. The paint is showing a few imperfections in places and the interior trim, as mentioned above, is showing lovely patina. Mechanically, the car is in excellent order and our own test drive revealed it to be one of the best driving E-Types we have had the pleasure of selling. This example is perfect for somebody who wants a great drivers car in good honest condition and who can improve the car cosmetically in areas over time, all the while enjoying it for what it is: a wonderful motor car.

Accompanied by a very good history file and priced very competitively for a UK RHD example, this Jaguar E-Type 3.8 Roadster is in the Hangar at the Classic Motor Hub and available for immediate inspection.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
