www.bonhams.com/eur/auction/19286/lot/493/
Auction description:
Sale 19286 - Goodwood Festival of Speed, Collectors' Motor Cars, Watches and Automobilia, 1 Jul 2011
Lot No: 493
1962 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 3.8-Litre Competition Coupé
Registration no. 824 FBX
Chassis no. 860576
Engine no. R5548-9
Estimate: £50,000 - 70,000
This 1962 Jaguar E-Type coupé, chassis number '860576' and engine number 'R5548-9', was despatched to Bob Neville for race preparation approximately 14 years ago by the current vendor, who has now had the car for 20 years. However, a lack of time has prevented the owner using it to take part in any competitions. '824 FBX' has undergone total restoration and race preparation. The balanced engine breathes via triple Weber carburettors, the Moss gearbox has been rebuilt and the differential has been overhauled at Salisbury's. The bodywork's hand-crafted rear wheelarches were inspired by those of the Malcolm Sayer designed 'low drag' E-Type '49 FXN', while the aluminium alloy bonnet and doors were supplied by RS Panels. Other noteworthy features include new wiring harness, electrics, braking system, Aeroquip braided hoses and FIA-specification bolt-in roll cage. All four wheels are magnesium alloy: genuine Dunlop at the front and modern RSP replicas at the rear. In addition, two spare original Dunlop magnesium wheels come with the car. An ideal fast road or track day E-Type prepared to an exemplary standard, '824 FBX' is described as in generally very good condition and offered with MoT to June 2012. We understand that a Swansea V5C document has been applied for.
