Lot 3494 on Collecting Cars on line auction of Collectible Cars on 3 May 2021. Sold for £118,000. Abbreviated seller's description below.

www.collectingcars.com/for-sale/1962-jaguar-e-type-series-1-3-8-fhc-1

This Series 1 is a beautifully restored and numbers matching example of an iconic British coupe witha sumptous Connolly leather interior and smart Grey finish. It is equipped with a rebuilt 3.8 litre straight six using its original cylinder head coupled to a 5 speed Getrag manual transmission. The odometer indicates 4,539 miles, though the vendor reports that the clock is on its second cycle, which is supported by its MoT history. The accurate mileage is therefore 104,539 miles, though it has been used sparingly since restoration.

First registered in March 1963, this E Type has been with its current keeper for 2 years. The car has been rebuilt to the factory colour scheme on the heritage certificate, with the engine rebuilt by Chesman Motorsport in Coventry, a Connolly leather interior from Mick Turley, a set of period correct wire wheels with Blockley tyres, and uprated brakes with Coopercraft four pot front callipers. The car's elegant bodywork is in excellent shape having been restored to its original factory form, with a previously installed Webasto sunroof removed and painted in its original Opalescent Silver Grey.

Inside the Connolly red leather interior is superb, still fresh froma professional re-trim. The rest of the interior is in excellent order, including the metal centre console, beige headlining, dials, switchgear and period three spoke steering wheel. The most recent MoT test was on 19 February 2021 at 103,778 miles, which resulted in a pass with no advisories. This Series 1 FHC is a stunning example of the beloved British coupe which has been expertly restored with no expense spared. Now in superb condition throughout it is ready to be enjoyed and be a credit to any collection.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
