This 1962 E-type was my Dads pride and joy. He purchased it 1982. Previous history is unknown. When he passed away it came to me. I have cherished and maintained it well, but I am now putting it up for auction because of other interests. I will describe as best I can: It is a series I with flat floors and covered headlights, 3.8 litre open two seater. It has 70,700 actual miles. I have been told that it is the 524th ots built. I can see from peeling red paint on the subframe and trunk floor that the original color was indigo (dark blue). It has matching #s. Car# 875524. Body# R1684. Engine# R1662-9 (block AND head. 9/1 compression ratio). Gear box# EB833JS. I was not able to verify gear box #, but I'm sure that it must be the original. The interior has been completely restored to original spec. with new door panels, dash pad, carpeting, vinyl behind the seats and leather seat upholstery. The top was replaced as well along with all the door seals. The Trunk got new wood floor panels and a new carpet. All instruments, gauges and switches function perfectly with the exception of the clock. The emergency brake works. The AM radio works. The original cigar lighter works. The factory original steering wheel is very nice. The windows roll up and down with no problem. The top mechanism works fine. The original tonneau cover is in good condition. A custom fit car dust cover will be included. At 65,000 miles the IRS assembly was removed and completely rebuilt with all new bearings and seals. The differential pinion and output shaft seals were replaced. The rear brake calipers were replaced with stainless steel sleeved units. The rotors and pads were replaced as well. The wheel camber angle was set to factory spec. The front pads and hoses were replaced and the rotors turned. Around the same time all 5 wheels were sent to The Dayton Wheel Co. to be rebuilt/rechromed. They have been coated with Dupont clear Imron. The tires (5) are 185 SR 15 Vredesten (made in Holland) "Sprint ST" with 85-90% tread left. At 68,200 miles the engine got a major tune-up. The valves were adjusted, cam chain tension set, new plug wires, cap, rotor and Bosch platinum plugs. The points and condensor were eliminated and replaced with a Pertronics solid state unit. The Carburetors were adjusted and synchronized. The in-tank fuel pump (unreliable) was bypassed and a solid state pump installed. The engine runs and sounds great. The exhaust note through the factory system is sweet music. Nothing else sounds like a Jaguar XK engine! The oil pressure at hot idle (70deg C) is 20 lbs. and is 40 lbs. at 2000 RPM hot. The engine does not overheat and uses only a qt. of oil in 1200-1500 miles. The expansion tank has been replaced with a brass unit. All the coolant hoses are relatively new. While the car was on the lift for pictures, I could see signs that the transmission front seal has been weeping oil. Although this car looks awesome from 20 feet away, the paint job is rather poor. There are some small blisters in the paint on the outside bottom edge of the doors. There are a couple of dents in the nose and one on the trunk lid. The left rear bumper and all 4 over riders are dented. The floors, wheel openings and trunk floor all look good. The sills/jacking points are weak. The undercarriage is dirty, There are wiper scuffs on the windshield. There is no key for the doors. The clutch judders a little in reverse. The windshield washer pump stopped working probably from disuse. In the past 25 years this Jaguar has not been hot-rodded, driven hard or abused. I would not hesitate to drive it anywhere. It is totally reliable. I believe it deserves a body and paint restoration to the original color, but that's up to the new owner. MY RESERVE PRICE IS LOW BUT PLEASE DON'T ASK. I have the clear Ohio title in my name.

according to it's Jaguar Heritage Certificate it is the 526 th E type manufactured in March of '61 so it's really an early one.

The paint on the car is fair but still looks good. and there is no rust to speak of.

This car, while being a very good driver cardid win some "Best in Driver's Class" awards around the tri state area

and appeared as a guest at the Carlisle European Car Show. It was also featured in the book "Me and My E-type" by GT JOEY. it also appeared on the Velocity Television car show "Legends of Designs" BUT this car is meant to be driven, this is not a trailer Queen, but it will always be a real beauty !

This is an honest assessment of this car, it's an excellent driver and still has the patina of years of owners taking good care of it. I think that it is priced honestly and fairly if you compare the market.

Offered here is a desirable, early-production example of the iconic Jaguar E-Type. This car was the 524th example produced, and therefore features the flat floor in the driver's and passenger footwells, the lovely aluminum trim on the center console and dash, and the more Roadster-like bucket seats. All in all, these early production examples offer the purest design and driving experience. Completed at the Browns Lane Jaguar Works on September 13, 1961, the new E-Type was configured as a left-hand drive Roadster and finished in the stunningly beautiful Indigo Blue exterior color, over a grey leather interior and blue Roadster top. The car was dispatched from the Works on September 28, 1961, and destined for Jaguar Cars of New York, USA. According to the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate on file, the first recorded owner was a Mr. Charles M. Donly of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The E-Type Roadster is accompanied by a comprehensive history file, which documents long-term ownership between two separate enthusiasts going back to 1985, and diligent service and maintenance records. The exterior color has been changed from the factory original Indigo Blue to Carmen Red (a period-correct E-Type color), and the interior has been retrimmed in black. Gauges, brightwork, and the classic wood-rimmed steering wheel all appear to be original, and a lovely period radio is affixed to the dashboard. There are some imperfections in the paintwork, but the exterior chrome is in beautiful condition. Some corrosion is reported on the floors, but the car would pass as a great driver-level E-Type as it sits and would then be a great candidate to eventually restore back to the original Indigo Blue over grey livery. Most importantly, the car retains its original, matching-numbers engine and cylinder head.

With spare parts readily and quite inexpensively available, and great club support, these early E-Types are true and tested collector cars to own and enjoy. The car is offered with its Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate documenting the matching-numbers status, a large history file containing many receipts and records, full tool set, jack, knock-off hammer and owner's manuals. This charming E-Type Roadster, being an early, first production-year example with covered headlights and dainty taillights, is considered by many to be the purest and most desirable example of the model.
