The example offered here is an early 1962 "flat floor" Series I that has recently emerged from two decades in storage from a personal collection and has never been publicly offered for sale. The "flat floor" design was initiated by Jaguar to improve interior comfort, as the floor was recessed below and behind the seats creating just enough room to vastly improve driving comfort. Chassis number 875747 was built on October 10, 1961, restored in the mid-1990s and has only been driven some 400 miles since. Its restoration was authentically completed as per its Jaguar Heritage Certificate and it presents today like it left the factory. All numbers match and it recently received an intense sorting that saw the engine resealed and the carburetors rebuilt. A new aluminum exhaust was also installed and the sound that emanates from its twin cam six is something that only the E-Type has. The interior is finished in finely stitched tan leather that adds a dramatic contrast to its gleaming black paint. The dashboard is beautifully restored with correct toggle switches and a wood steering wheel provides for the perfect Grand Touring experience. The gleaming black paint gives an indication of the level of quality achieved in the restoration of this car as it glows like new with a high-quality finish that can stand with the best on any concours show field. A black convertible top displays an air of highly refined quality with no wrinkles or blemishes in any areas and this Series I has its canvas top boot. Jaguar's work-of-art twin cam six is nicely displayed in this E-Type that features polished aluminum surfaces and three SU carburetors for superior performance. The dashing appearance is nicely set off by a set of gleaming wire wheels that are a fitting touch on this fine British sports car.
The E-Type Jaguar is always a welcome sight at any concours and this one could stand out in a field with the best. Its beautiful colors coupled with its gorgeous interior makes for a car that's a pleasure to look at and fun to drive. The quality, fit, and finish of this Series I E-Type holds up even under the closest inspection. For the collector of fine British sports cars this rare "flat floor" Series I E-Type is a car that checks a significant box while offering a spirited driving experience on the open road.

This 1962 Jaguar E-Type is a Series I flat-floor roadster that was refurbished in the 1990s and refreshed in 2017 after a period of storage. Following the current owner’s acquisition in 2018, the car underwent a mechanical rebuild at a cost of over $68k, with work that included rebuilding the 3.8-liter inline-six and installing a custom ground crankshaft, limited-slip differential, porcelain manifolds, billet steel flywheel, high-speed gear reduction starter, aluminum radiator, electric fan, and Tremec T5 five-speed manual transmission. The car is finished in black over a light tan leather interior and is equipped with a black soft top and 15″ wire wheels. This XKE is now offered by the seller on behalf of the owner in North Kingstown, Rhode Island, with service records, a copy of the Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, the original four-speed transmission, and Connecticut registration.
This Series I is a flat-floor example that features a continuous floorboard under each seat. The car is finished in black and was repainted during the 1990s refurbishment. It is equipped with a black soft top, a matching top boot, enclosed headlights, and a louvered clamshell hood. A left-rear bumper overrider was re-chromed in 2017. The seller notes a paint blemish on the trunk lid and that the trunk lid sits high at one corner.
The 15″ wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-offs and are mounted with 185-HR-15 Michelin XVS tires. The power-assisted four-wheel disc brake system was modified in 2018 with a Wilwood front brake kit, braided stainless-steel lines, and replacement front and rear master cylinders. The upper and lower ball joints and the tie rod ends were also replaced at that time.
The cabin features bucket seats upholstered in light tan leather with color-coordinated door panels and carpets. A textured aluminum dash panel and center tunnel cap were installed in 2017.
A replacement wood-rimmed steering wheel was installed in 2018 and fronts Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer. The five-digit odometer shows 23k miles, approximately 1,600 of which were added under current ownership.
The 3.8-liter inline-six was rebuilt between 2017 and 2018 with work that included replacing the pistons, timing chain, bearings, and gaskets. Modifications include:

Alloy radiator
Porcelain-coated exhaust manifolds
Stainless-steel exhaust system
The T5 five-speed manual transmission was installed in 2018 along with a billet steel flywheel and a high-performance clutch kit. A limited-slip differential is also fitted. A car cover, service records, and the removed factory four-speed manual transmission are included in the sale.
A copy of the Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace certificate lists the factory colors of black over tan, the chassis, body, engine, and transmission numbers, and the build and dispatch dates. Service records detailing over $68,000 in work performed since 2018 are included along with identification numbers for the included original four-speed manual transmission.
