This Series 1 1963 Jaguar E-Type Roadster (or “OTS,” for open two seater) is described by the seller as a mostly original car that was repainted 25 years ago. The odometer currently displays 31,063 miles, which according to the vehicle title is “Not Actual Mileage”.

EXTERIOR

The Maroon paint, sourced from Sikkens, is stated by the seller to be 25 years old, and retains a moderate gloss with notable blemishes on the hood, rockers, and trunk valence. Orange peel is visible in some areas. The paint work was exterior only, and the vehicle retains its original green color in the engine compartment and undercarriage. There is a dent on the left leading edge of the hood, and a swipe on the right front wheel arch. Paint chips are visible on the door edges, paint is bubbling above the left rear wheel arch, and spots of rust are appearing along the edges of the rocker sills and doors. The rear bumper is exhibiting rust at its leading points, and has pitting on the bumper guards.

The grey convertible top is described as being an NOS part that was installed 15 years ago. It is stated to be in good condition and fully operational. The weather seals are reported to be pliable, and are estimated by the seller to be 25 years old. The exterior lighting is stated to be original, and has cracks on the front corner lights and the reverse light. The glass, too, is said to be original, with the exception of the windshield, which was likely replaced in the past. The headlight covers are present, and a hard top is included. The hardtop rear window will be included, but it is not installed. The seller shares that the vehicle has never been driven in the rain during her ownership, and thus it is not known if it is watertight.

INTERIOR

The interior is complete and intact and also dates to the 1995 refurbishment, according to the seller. All carpeted and leather surfaces appear well preserved. The Dove grey leather upholstery appears to be in good condition, with wear noted on the driver’s seat bolster. The classic E-Type three-spoke, wood-rimmed steering wheel presents well, and adds an accent of tradition to the elegant interior. The rear view mirror has blemishes in the glass. The trunk carpet shows tears, holes, and wear.

POWERTRAIN

This 1963 Jaguar Series I E-Type is powered by a Jaguar XK 3.8-liter DOHC inline-six coupled to a four-speed manual transmission. Equipped with three SU two-barrel carburetors and pistons pushing 9.0:1 compression, this race-proven engine was rated at 265 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, capable of bringing the E-Type to a top speed of 150 mph, an astounding figure for the day, particularly from a standard production car. The seller affirms that the engine is original to the car, and was rebuilt 25 years ago. She adds that the engine starts quickly and idles well, while the four-speed shifts smoothly.

CHASSIS

According to the seller, the suspension is all original and has not required servicing during her ownership. She adds that there is no wear evident in the suspension components. The unassisted rack-and-pinion steering is stated to functional normally, and the rack mounts were reportedly changed 25 years ago. According to the seller, the power-assisted, four-wheel-disc brakes were also rebuilt 25 years ago and exhibit a fluid weep from the inboard rear brake calipers. The chrome knock-off wire wheels are stated to be original, with light lip damage and surface corrosion visible. The Michelin 185-15 radial tires are believed to have been installed in 1995. As the age of the tires exceed 25 years, they are due for replacement based on age alone.
