New acquisition. The car has been off the road and apart for 20-25 years. Last two owners didn't complete restoration. My turn now. Still assessing bits to see what needs to be done. Originally from CA so the body has little or no rot. I hope all the parts are there. It's my "Jag-In-The-Box"!

Your restoration is looking great, Mike. I owned 1E30036 (now in Denmark) from 1982 until 1998, and finished it in the same colors. Hopefully, I can pick up another barn find and repeat the process. In the meantime, good luck with your restoration and drop me a note if you hit any snags--these pics look all too familiar and I still have my notes. Looking forward to seeing this one finished and on the road!

Original interior was dark blue with light blue piping. Probably looked very sharp when new!

I predict that it'll look very sharp when you're finished with it! Light-blue piping on dark-blue seats may have been a special request by the original owner. I don't recall seeing that combination listed in any of my sources.

While the BRG looked nice in photos, it had not been stored properly since being painted about ten years ago. Also the paint job was so-so. I had all the paint removed, top and bottom, inside and out. This wasn't the original plan, but it seems those never mean much anyways. After paint removal, the whole shell was sealed with epoxy primer. There are a few past sins to rectify and then paint. The plan is to stay with the BRG; base/clear coat. A new biscuit interior came with the car and that will look nice with the BRG. Time to start thinking about all the mechanical bits; lots to do there. The engine had been professionally rebuilt, so I'm hoping that will need little attention. The Moos Box will need to be looked into; that should happen next month. The big deal will be the rear end which looked to have never been out before.
I wish I was ten years younger; might need the time!
    Mike.

Finally back from paint. Used a Land Rover Green that's not as dark as some BRG's. Will look nice with the biscuit interior. Now I just gotta finish everything else!

Entering year seven with the rebuild project. Nothing has not needed attention. Did a re-paint a few years back. The Land Rover Green was too "yellow". Found a correct Jaguar BRG and had it duplicated. Much better. Next step will be getting into the interior. Looking for help on some of the tricky parts. Onward...………..

This 1964 Jaguar XKE Series I coupe was acquired by the seller in 2013 as an unfinished project and subsequently underwent a multi-year refurbishment. Work included stripping the body, repairing sheetmetal, and refinishing the body in dark green as well as reupholstering the interior in beige, and rebuilding the 3.8-liter inline-six and four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes chrome 15″ knock-off wire wheels, power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes, triple SU carburetors, a PerTronix ignition conversion, a gear-reduction starter, an aluminum radiator, chrome-finished bumpers, and a wood-rimmed steering wheel. An oil change was carried out in April 2023. This Series I XKE coupe is now offered with removed underside splash panels, a tool kit and jack, a repair manual, a Jaguar-Daimler Heritage Trust certificate, manufacturer’s literature, refurbishment photos, and a clean Michigan title in the seller’s name.

The car left the factory finished in Opalescent Silver Blue and was disassembled, placed on a rotisserie jig, and repainted in dark green following metal repairs in the front footwell and trunk floor under current ownership. Exterior details include covered headlights, chrome bumpers, a louvered clamshell hood, venting rear quarter windows, a side-hinged hatch, and central polished twin exhaust outlets. Further work reportedly included replacing the windshield and rebuilding the windshield wiper motor. The windshield wipers do not automatically park, the windshield washer is non-functional, and the seller notes difficulty shutting the driver’s door after replacing the weatherstripping.

Chrome-finished 15″ wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-offs and mounted with 185-series Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. Braking is handled by power-assisted four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors. The brakes, suspension, and steering systems were reportedly overhauled during the seller’s refurbishment, and work is said to have included rebuilding brake master cylinders, installing brake fluid bleeders and polyurethane front suspension bushings, and replacing the brake lines, rotors and pads, splined hubs, wheel bearings, springs and dampers, tie-rod ends, and steering shafts and universal joints.

The cabin is said to have been refurbished in tan using an upholstery kit from G.W. Bartlett Co. Appointments include a dome light, an ash tray, a cabin heater, low-back bucket seats, lap belts, and hand-crank side windows. The seller states the dash controls and heater have been rebuilt.

A wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation that includes a 160-mph speedometer, a tachometer with an inset analog clock, and centrally mounted auxiliary gauges. The instrumentation is said to have been rebuilt, and the five digit odometer shows 85k miles, less than 500 of which have been added by the seller. True mileage is unknown.

The 3.8-liter inline-six features triple SU side-draft carburetors, a PerTronix electronic distributor conversion, a gear-reduction starter, and an aluminum radiator with electric fans. The engine was factory rated at 266 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, and it was reportedly rebuild during the aforementioned refurbishment along with the carburetors. Engine work is said to have included reconditioning the cylinder head and replacing the pistons, oil pump, bearings, timing chains and guides, valves, valve springs and seats, water pump, distributor, and coil. The wiring, fuel tank, and fuel pump have also reportedly been replaced, and an oil change was carried out in April 2023.

The serial number stamping on the cylinder head reads RA4292-9, which corresponds with the engine number listed on the Jaguar-Daimler Heritage Trust certificate.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Moss four-speed manual transmission. The transmission and differential were reportedly overhauled during refurbishment work, an aluminum flywheel was installed, and the clutch hydraulics and universal joints were replaced. Underside splash panels are currently uninstalled and will accompany the car.

Documentation accompanying the car includes manufacturer’s literature, a repair manual, and a Jaguar-Daimler Heritage Trust certificate detailing colors, serial numbers, and production information.

The frame stamping and the data plate both depict the serial number 889448, while the VIN listed on the title includes a “J64” prefix.
