This 1964 Jaguar XKE Series I coupe was dispatched to New York in February 1964 and is said to have been owned by the same family for many years and was stored for approximately 20 years before being acquired by the current owner in 2024. Finished in black over black leather, the car is powered by a 3.8-liter inline-six linked to a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. Equipment includes triple SU carburetors, enclosed headlights, 15″ wire wheels, power-assisted disc brakes, and lap belts. Recommissioning work conducted under current ownership has included replacement of the carburetor floats, throttle-pump diaphragms, fuel pump, freeze plugs, water pump, radiator hoses, belt tensioner, tune-up parts, and the battery. The seller recommends that the brakes and other systems be serviced before the vehicle is driven regularly. This XKE coupe is now offered by the seller on behalf of the owner with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate and a California title in the owner’s name. The seller states that the doors should be realigned so they will shut better and also that the driver-side hood latch needs attention. The most recent registration sticker on the black California license plate expired in 2006.
Chrome-finished 15″ wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-offs and are mounted with 225/70 Remington Emerald whitewall tires that are more than 20 years old, according to the seller. Braking is provided by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors. The seller states that the brakes should be serviced before the car is driven extensively, and the right-front brake caliper drags.
The cabin features bucket seats upholstered in black leather along with color-coordinated door panels and carpeting. Interior appointments include black vinyl dash trim, an Alpine AM/FM/cassette stereo, lap belts, and a heater. Audio speakers are not installed.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames a Smiths 160-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer, while auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage are located at the center of the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 35k miles, approximately 50 of which were added under current ownership.
The 3.8-liter inline-six features triple SU carburetors and was factory rated at 265 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. Service performed in preparation for the sale is said to have involved changing the oil and replacing the following:
Carburetor floats
Throttle-pump diaphragms
Fuel pump
Fuel filter
Freeze plugs
Water pump
Radiator hoses
Belt tensioner
Distributor cap and rotor
Battery
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a Moss four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. Rust is noted in the floorboards and around the battery tray.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace certificate shows the original colors and drivetrain numbers as well as a build date of January 17, 1964, and dispatch to New York.
The car’s chassis number is 889890, whereas the California title prepends that sequence with “J64,” citing J64889890 as the VIN.
