This 1970 Jaguar XKE 2+2 was built in December 1969 and is said to have been imported from the United States to Canada in 2003 by a prior owner. The car was acquired by the seller in 2015 from his mechanic, who is said to have completed a refurbishment that included a repaint in dark gray, re-chroming the bumpers, overhauling the rear end, and refreshment of the engine. Power comes from a 4.2-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission, and additional equipment includes 15″ wire wheels, front disc brakes, electronic ignition, bucket seats upholstered in black, and a push-button radio. This Series II XKE is now offered with an aftermarket tool roll, a replacement rear seat, and transferable Ontario registration in the seller’s name.

This example is said to have been previously finished in Regency Red, and was repainted in its current shade of dark gray under previous ownership, with the bumpers and chrome trim re-chromed or replaced at this time. The windshield washer fluid pump has been disconnected, and an area of cracking paint on the hood and other blemishes.

Replacement chrome 15″ wire wheels are mounted with Universal Sport radial tires, and a full-size spare with an older Firestone tire is housed in the trunk. During the refurbishment, the rear subframe assembly was removed and refinished before being reassembled and fitted with replacement mounts, bushings, and rear shocks. Additional work included refurbishing the steering rack, rebuilding the brake calipers, and replacement of the brake pads, rotors, and tie rods. An area of chrome peeling is noted on one of the wheels.

The cabin features bucket seats upholstered in black with a matching dashboard, door panels, and carpets. Amenities include a locking glovebox, a push-button radio, and a center console. The seller notes that the air conditioning components and rear bench seat were removed under prior ownership, and a used replacement rear seat is included in the sale.

A wood-rimmed three-spoke steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 5k-rpm redline. Factory auxiliary gauges are housed above the center stack. Just under 44k miles are shown on the five-digit odometer. Approximately 750 miles have been added by the seller, and true mileage is unknown.

The 4.2-liter inline-six was reportedly rebuilt and fitted with an electronic 123ignition ignition system, 9:1 compression pistons, and a replacement crankshaft. Additional components replaced at this time included the valves and guides, upper and lower timing chains, starter, alternator, and voltage regulator. The fluids were last changed in September 2018.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission and a rear differential, the latter of which was overhauled and fitted with 3.07:1 gears. The seller states that the driveshaft u-joints, clutch assembly, and slave cylinder were also replaced.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
