Ebay item 1/3/21

Current bid: $27,877 reserve not met 7 bids 6 days left in auction, seller tommytu3, 48k miles.

Seller's description:
My father acquired this 1972 Series III E-type in 1986 from the original owner. It was originally a maroon 2+2 with automatic transmission. It has been in California its entire life and is a 100% rust free example. It has been garaged since 1986 to present. My father was an experienced sheet metal fabricator and restoration professional and competed in car shows most his life, winning many awards. In 1990 my father purchased a full coupe to convertible conversion kit from England. All parts were manufactured on original Jaguar tooling purchased from the former Jaguar company. The Series III is the only series E-Type that just offered a 2+2 coupe or convertible, making the switch between both relatively straight forward. It is as per factory. The car has never been abused or suffered any damage. At this time brand new factory wire wheels were purchased as well using the original style two blade spinners. The car was fully restored in 1972 British Racing Green to compete in car shows next to his fully restored Series 1 red convertible seen in some of the photos. An all-new tan leather interior was installed. Its original matching numbers V12 ran very well but was disassembled, inspected and rebuilt as required during restoration. Car was assembled with the original 3 speed automatic. Car was driven approximately 5000 miles after complete restoration. My father passed away in 2006. I was the car's custodian and in 2009 the transmission failed. The car was parked in our garage until in 2019 when I had time to complete in a way that would further compliment the car. Only the front bonnet was resprayed, the rest of the car's paint is from 1990. In very direct sunlight only, the color matched green on bonnet can seem a touch lighter although in most light is identical match. I used a Dellow Conversions kit to mate the V12 to a 1996 Japanese W58 close ratio 5 speed. Magic in a box. This is the later W58 with steel sandwich plate box, good for well over 400 horsepower. It was disassembled, inspected and rebuilt. I chose an American made "Cube" short shifter. I installed an American Fidanza alloy flywheel and 400hp clutch pack. The lighter flywheel makes this magical engine even more so. From the clutch pedal all the way to the throw out bearing arm is all new and factory type parts. I also updated the stock starter with a gear reduction Japanese starter and wired it with a separate starter button which I mounted in place of the original ash tray. I completely rebuilt the four Zenith Stromberg carburetors and installed a Pertronix electronic ignition in place of the troublesome stock OPUS. Rebuilt the brakes main master cylinder and bled out the brake system. These described updates all add up to a vast improvement over stock. The transmission is one of the finest shifting manuals I have ever driven. Very crisp and short throw with the addition of a solid stainless steel weighted shift ball. The ratios are perfect for the rear differential ratio and engine. It drives as if delivered from the factory with this gearbox. It is a beautiful running, driving example of this epic car. 11 quarts of fresh GTX oil in engine, new spark plugs, as well as high-end coolant added after flushing. I no longer have a work area. This is an honest review of what still needs to be done: Rear differential pinion seal started to leak about 300 miles ago. It is a drivable car at present, but the seal will eventually need replacing. The air conditioner was functional, but it needs serviced and recharged. I disliked the power steering so I drive without it. It may need a new fluid pump. Approximately $100.00 used, easy installation. The speedometer reads 40mph at 60mph which doesn't bother me as the tach has been properly calibrated for the Pertronix electronic ignition and I use that to gauge my speed. The car's mileage is correct as it has only been driven for about 500 miles since its transmission replacement. For approx. $200 the speedometer cable can be removed and sent to an instrument specialist, and they can add a compensator box in the cable so it will read exact mph. The hydraulic dampers need replacing that hold the trunk lid while open. I just reinstalled the cassette player, did not hook it up. Obviously outdated. In 1972 they only had an air pump for SMOG and my father kept all related parts in a box, they come with the car as does the stock transmission and related hardware. Will include an original factory service manual and factory specific car jack, pictured. What is up for auction is a stunning rust-free older restoration car with the listed updates. It is a beauty and joy to drive. IMHO it is one of the finest examples I've seen available for sale. Lovingly cared for and worked on from father to son. I love this V12 E-type, very strong and reliable powertrain in what most experts agree is the most beautiful sports car ever conceived.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
