I bought this car in 1978 in Houston. It was in mediocre condition: indoor-outdoor carpet, weak clutch, ... We started rebuilding in 1988, and finished and registered it again in 2006. It is basically stock, with modern functional upgrades to the cooling fan, distributor innards, windscreen washer pump, radio, and starter. It has now retired with us in San Francisco. What a blast to cruise down the curvy part of Lombard St.

Private Party Or Dealer: Private Party

This 1965 Jaguar XKE is a Series I roadster that was purchased by the seller in July 1978 and was refurbished in 1997, with work including an engine rebuild, rebuilding the front suspension, and a repaint in red. Power is from a numbers-matching 4.2L inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission, and equipment includes a black convertible top, 15″ wire wheels, black leather upholstery, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, and an aftermarket Kenwood stereo. New Firestone tires were installed in 2018. This XKE roadster is now offered with spare parts, a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate, literature, service records, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.

Originally finished in Opalescent Dark Blue, the car was repainted in the present shade of red in July 1997. Exterior features include a replacement black convertible top, split chrome bumpers, and dual exhaust outlets. The right-front fender was replaced in 1997 to repair collision damage that reportedly occurred under previous ownership, and the front hood supports are replacements. Paint chips and dings are noted in the finish.

Chrome-finished 15″ wire wheels have two-ear knock-off hubs and are mounted with 205/70 Firestone FR710 tires that were installed in March 2018. The seller reports that the brake reaction valve was replaced in March 2021, the rear brake calipers were rebuilt in March 2015, and the lower steering-column U-joint was replaced at that time. The front suspension was rebuilt in 1997.

The cabin was reportedly reupholstered in 2003 and features seats trimmed in black leather as well as a matching dashboard, door panels, and carpets. A Kenwood AM/FM/CD stereo is installed in the center stack below the dash-mounted toggle switches and auxiliary gauges.

The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with an inset clock. The five-digit odometer shows 36k miles, approximately 6k of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.

The 4.2-liter inline-six was rebuilt in 1997 and features dual overhead camshafts, a trio of SU carburetors, and a factory-rated output of 265 horsepower and 283 lb-ft of torque. A CoolCat radiator fan has been added along with a PerTronix ignition, a spin-on oil filter, and a gear-reduction starter. The front engine mounts were replaced in March 2015, the spark plugs were replaced in September 2020.

Engine block stamping 7E1358-9 is shown above and matches the engine number listed on the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate. Corresponding stampings on the cylinder head and chassis plate.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. The front frame rails, front subframe, and front cross-member assembly were replaced during the 1997 refurbishment, and the front cross-member assembly carries the serial number from another car. A rear suspension cross-member assembly mount, the pinion seal, and the exhaust mounts were replaced in March 2015, and cracks in the front cross member were repaired in 2020. Corrosion is visible on exhaust system components in underside.

The Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust document shows factory colors, drivetrain numbers, and a date of dispatch of October 27, 1964.
