RM Auction, Phoenix, AZ, 1/18/2002, Lot #36. Sports Car Market report:
Excellent panel and door fit, original leather showing slight wear. Catalog claims a great deal of mechanical work performed in recent times.

The car was bought from RM by a California collector. Driven by him until 2003, and was driven in The Quail rally (Pebble Beach, 2003) by him and his buddy, who bought the car from him thereafter. Since then, it's been in Connecticut: good car, we're now looking at fixing little things like the clock, since everything else is spot on. I'll report more later.

Its reported in the "XKE Car Numbers: A Guide" section of this web site that this car lacs the "1E" prefix. JDHT has convirmed that the first 4.2L cars lacked the prefix, it's been suggested that there may be 300 +/- without it.

Car to be at auction 8/10

Auction description:
Sale 18267 - Exceptional Motorcars and Automobilia, 12 Aug 2010 to 13 Aug 2010
Quail Lodge
Lot No: 636•
1964 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 4.2 Liter Open Two Seater
Chassis no. 10243
Engine no. 7E-1322-8
Originally delivered in France when new, it is known that the first owner was an M. Pike, who purchased it through the Garage Royal Elysees of Paris. By the mid-1970s the car had already moved to America and is known to have been the property of Constance Cho of Las Vegas. 6 years later it was purchased by a Mace Gazda also of Nevada, who seemingly used the car very little as it was consigned to storage for some time, through to 1996, when on his death it was sold and became the property of a Mr. Sobelman of Fountain Valley, California. At this point the car received a mechanical restoration. In 2002 it was purchased at auction, by a friend of the current owner, also based in California, becoming his property a year later.
Over the last 7 years the car has been both enjoyed and treated to considerable expenditure, in that order. Actively campaigned on rallies such as the Texas 1000, New England 1000 and The Quail Rally here in Carmel Valley, it has never missed a beat and is reported to perform very well with a good engine performance.
In recent times, it has benefited from what has amounted to a complete cosmetic refurbishment, which has included a full bare metal respray to the current ever popular British Racing Green livery and an entirely new interior in tan leather, with photo documented work being completed by Barker Gang Garage in Denver, Colorado and further detailing by the famed Alan Taylor Restorations of Escondido, California. Naturally, as a result of this the car presents extremely well.
Offered complete with its Jaguar Daimler Heritage Certificate, owners manual, workshop/parts book, service records for the last decade, complete tool roll, jack and fitted cover, this car represents a complete and ready to use package with a known history.
Estimate: $75,000 - 85,000

The buyer at Bonhams in 2010 was a collector in Windsor Ontario Canada who shipped it over to Ontario then stored it with some light use until 2013, when I bought it. I have it in Kingston Ontario and its a great car. Im British and had E Types in England - this one is a great fun drivers car. I ve had to do some minor maintenance including the main bearing oil seal but it always starts on the button and craves to be driven. I will try to upload some photos some day ...
