Seller's description:
This Jaguar E-Type was owned for decades by an avid European car collector in Southern California, who also dabbled in vintage motorcycle and military artifact collecting. Known to be an absolute favorite among his collection, the damaged areas presented here were “installed” courtesy of his own driving time behind the wheel. This E-type meant something fairly special to the gentleman as he had enjoyed driving it so much. Prior to its recent purchase from estate, this car had been kept in dry storage in an airplane hanger in Southern California for the last 25 years. After health problems became an issue for the gentleman that owned it, his family reached out to sell the car to the shop that had known the car and family for years. We at Vintage Underground purchased this E-type from them. This is a very complete car as it was driven and enjoyed regularly prior to being parked many years ago. Body flaws are evident. Notably missing is the windshield washer reservoir bottle…which would have been a glass unit mounted on the firewall and secured with a metal basket, which is present. The lack of many damaging rust areas on this early E-type roadster makes for a fairly rare opportunity to build on a very solid foundation. The body is very straight except for a couple areas of concern including a slight impact at the leading edge of the bonnet (which is so common on the E-types), light impact in the driver side wing, slight rust bubbling at the bottom of the drivers door, surface rust in a couple of areas and very small signs of regular use including scratches and dings around the car. Overall paint quality is fairly poor and could do with a complete repaint at a minimum. Battery tray has a rust spot the size of a dime. The bright work throughout the car is not great in presentation, but would plate well. The 4.2 Liter engine does run on a remote fuel cell, but only sufficiently for testing and viability. The original high compression head is numbers matching, and correctly mated to the triple S.U. Carbs. The engine block has been replaced at sometime in this car's life. Overall interior condition is fairly presentable as is, with age as expected. This E-type but will need tidying up to be a driver. It would be a great candidate for a high end restoration as you would not be dealing with a rusty tub to start with. So, this one can be brought back to driver status with only mechanical refreshment or made into a JCNA high point E-type.
