Auction description:
This 1965 Jaguar XKE Series I roadster was produced on December 4, 1964, and initially distributed through Jaguar Cars in New York. It was sent to Germany for a refurbishment that was completed in 2020, and it was acquired by the current owner that same year. Work involved overhauling the 4.2-liter inline-six and its triple SU carburetors as well as the four-speed manual gearbox and suspension. Additional details include electronic ignition, an aluminum radiator, a galvanized fuel tank, and GAZ adjustable dampers. The car is finished in metallic tan over a refreshed brown interior and has a brown soft top, 15″ wire wheels, a Blaupunkt push-button radio, and Smiths instrumentation. This XKE Series I is now offered by the seller on behalf of the current owner in New Jersey with a Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace certificate, a two-piece luggage set, a tool kit, a wood knock-off removal tool, and a clean Montana title in the name of the owner’s LLC.
The bodywork left the factory finished in Opalescent Golden Sand, and it is said to have been dissembled and stripped to bare metal with corroded body panels replaced before it was refinished with Standox paint in 2020. The chrome trim and wraparound bumpers were also refreshed. A brown soft top and twin central exhaust outlets are additional exterior details.
Chrome-finished 15″ wire wheels are secured with two-eared knock-offs and mounted with 185-width Blockley tires. Braking is handled by four-wheel discs, and GAZ adjustable dampers are fitted. An overhaul of the suspension involved replacing the shocks and various components with subsequent galvanization and powder-coating performed. The brake booster is also said to have been rebuilt and the brake master cylinder, brake lines, and brake pads replaced.
The interior was refreshed with materials sourced from BAS International including brown leather covering the seats and a coordinated center console and door panels. A Blaupunkt push-button radio is located ahead of the shifter. Work inside the cabin included repairing and repainting the seat frames and reupholstering the seats with materials from BAS, according to the seller.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation including a 260-km/h speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer, while auxiliary readouts are housed in the center of the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 412 miles, though total mileage is unknown. The gauges were disassembled, cleaned, and galvanized before they were fitted with new faces.
The 4.2-liter inline-six was overhauled in 2020 and is said to have received Mahle pistons and replacement components including a galvanized fuel tank, an electronic ignition, and an aluminum radiator with an electric fan. The oil pump, bearings, gaskets, and valves were also replaced and the triple SU carburetors were serviced.
Engine number 7E1901-9 is stamped on the cylinder head and on the engine block. Both stamps correspond to the engine number listed on the chassis identification plate and on the Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate. Additional stampings coordinating with the Heritage Trust Certificate.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission that was overhauled in 2020 with replacement seals and bearings. A replacement flywheel was also installed and the differential was rebuilt. A Wurth anti-corrosion coating was applied underneath the car.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace Certificate lists the chassis number along with a manufacture date of December 4, 1964, and shows that the car was distributed through Jaguar Cars of New York.
The included two-piece luggage set is lined with plaid cloth. A tool kit and a book of photos taken during the refurbishment process will also accompany the car.
