This 1965 Jaguar XKE is a Series I roadster that has been refinished in red over a black leather interior and powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes a black soft top, chrome 15” knock-off wire wheels, Wilwood front disc brakes, triple SU carburetors, an MSD ignition system, and a Motorola head unit with Kenwood speakers. The car was acquired in 2014 by the seller, who subsequently commissioned an engine rebuild in 2018. Work carried out in February 2021 consisted of replacing the starter and battery, refinishing the hood, and performing an oil change. This Series I Roadster is now offered on dealer consignment in Oregon with partial service records, a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, and a clean Arizona title.
The body has been refinished from the factory cream to current shade of red. Features include a black convertible top, split chrome bumpers with overriders, glass headlight covers, hood louvers, and polished moldings. In February 2021, the clamshell hood was repaired and refinished, and a paint correction was subsequently carried out.
Chrome 15” wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-offs and wear Pirelli P4000 tires. The rear torsion mount has been modified for adjustments, and braking is handled by aftermarket Wilwood discs in front and inboard discs at the rear. A spare wheel and tire are stored beneath the trunk floor.
The cabin is upholstered in black leather with matching door panels and carpets. Amenities include a windshield-mounted rearview mirror, and an aftermarket Motorola head unit with Kenwood speakers.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 160-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer. Switchgear and Auxiliary gauges are mounted in the center of the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 99k miles, 3k of which were added by the current owner. True mileage is unknown.
The 4.2-liter inline-six features dual overhead camshafts and triple SU carburetors and was factory rated at 265 horsepower with 283 lb-ft of torque. Additional equipment includes an MSD ignition system and a CoolCat radiator and fan. In 2018, Portland Engine Rebuilders of Aurora, Oregon rebuilt the engine with a new timing chain and guides, pistons, rod bearings, intake valves, and more as detailed on the invoices provided below. The flywheel was also resurfaced at that time. In February 2021, the starter and battery were replaced, and an oil change was carried out.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission. Additional photos of the underside are provided in the image gallery.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate lists the factory chassis number and colors as well as an December 5, 1964 date of manufacture.
