This 1965 Jaguar XKE Series I roadster is a non-running project that was produced on June 23, 1965, and initially distributed by Fattori and Montani of Rome, Italy. It was acquired by the seller in November 1988 and has spent most of the past two decades off the road. Refinished in white, the car is equipped with a 4.2-liter inline-six and a four-speed manual transmission in addition to a tan soft top, chrome bumpers, 15″ wire-spoke steel wheels, and disc brakes. This XKE Series I roadster is now offered with a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, spare parts, and a clean Illinois title in the seller’s name listing the car as a 1966 model year.

This example left the factory finished in Opalescent Dark Green and has been repainted white. The seller reports orange peel around the car, an area of touched-up paint above the left door handle, and various scratches and blemishes. There is pitting on the chrome and the tan soft top does not fit correctly.

Wire 15″ wheels are secured by two-eared knock-offs and are mounted with thin whitewall tires. The car is fitted with four-wheel disc brakes. Damage to the strut below the battery is noted. The cabin features bucket seats upholstered in beige leather. The removed AM radio is included in the sale. Damage to the carpets from animals is noted.

The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames a Smiths 160-mph speedometer and 6k-rpm tachometer, while auxiliary gauges are located in the center of the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 27k miles, approximately 500 of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.

The 4.2-liter inline-six is equipped with triple SU carburetors and a replacement cylinder head. The seller reports that it does not start and has not run in more than five years.

The car is equipped with a four-speed manual transmission. The photos of the undercarriage were taken in 2022.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace certificate shows the original colors and drivetrain numbers as well as the build and dispatch dates.

The data plate sequence 1E11181 is prepended with “J66” and listed as the VIN on the current Illinois title.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
