Auction description:
Our research with the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust, has confirmed that this Jaguar E-Type was originally supplied to right hand drive, manual specification. Their Heritage certificate also notes that it was sold new in Carmen red livery and had a black interior and matching hood, as it is today.Built on the 7th May 1965, the car was despatched on the 19th May through Henlys to Boon and Porter Ltd, and its first owner was Allen Hudson of Croydon in Surrey, U.K.The subsequent 20 years of history are not known, until it was acquired by Elton John in 1987. The car was then sold on 5th June 2001 by Christie's to the present owner.According to a brass plaque under the bonnet on the nearside, this E-Type was totally restored by John Talman at Michael Cane Restorations, of Mill Lane, Godalming (who would later become Mill Lane Engineering) in 1979.This is now a twenty-five year old restoration, which must have been executed to a very high standard at the time, as it has worn well. Today, the result is that the cosmetic appearance is still good, the interior shows only minor wear, and whilst the paintwork has a couple of minor signs of ageing, the bodywork is entirely straight, and under the bonnet is very clean.Over his 14 years of ownership Elton John's use of the Jaguar was quite limited, although as with all of his cars it was maintained to be ready to use at a moment's notice. Similarly, the current owner has had the car kept by Harwoods Ltd. of Chichester, Sussex. U.K. on a 'no expense spared basis'.It is currently UK road taxed and has a current MoT certificate, and is being sold with the distinctive 'OKE 1' British registration number, as well as other documentation with the car which includes the Heritage Certificate. In its desirable livery and with the additional benefit of chrome wire wheels, the Jaguar has a Trio Stereo cassette fitted, and a jack and tool roll are included. When sold in 2001, this E Type was one of the cars that few were aware that Sir Elton John owned, but a combination of its registration which was always referred to by his team as 'OK Elton' and the considerable press interest that this sale received, much of which pictured him with this car, led it to be one of the most popular and distinctive cars of the sale.In what many consider to be the definitive specification of the model and livery, and with this unique association, this is a car that Christie's is delighted to offer for sale again and can be recommended.

The current vendor bought the E-Type when a selection of cars from Sir Elton's collection was auctioned in 2001. Since acquisition it has been regularly maintained by Jaguar main dealer Harwoods on an annual basis, its most recent service having been carried out on 30th June 2011. While in the vendor's care the E-Type has shared a dehumidified garage with several other classics, covering only 1,000 miles in the last 10 years.
As well as a most desirable colour scheme, 'OKE 1' also boasts chromed wire wheels and a Trio radio/cassette, and comes complete with its jack and tool roll. Described by the private vendor as in generally good condition, this most attractive E-Type roadster is offered with Heritage Certificate, current road fund licence, MoT to October 2012 and Swansea V5 registration document.
