Sellers description:
1966 Jaguar XK-E Roadster. Original California, black plate. 64,352 original miles. I bought this car in 1979 and have performed much restoration work in the years since. Mechanically, it has been totally redone. Nice presentable interior in original materials. Good paint and sound body with no known rust. Not a show car, but a very good driver that is very reliable. Less than 3,000 miles since any of the restoration work, I only drive it a few times a year and accrue little mileage. The work and various details are described in the description below.
Engine
Completely rebuilt with all new internals (pistons, bearings, timing chains and tensioner, oil pump, oil pump bypass spring, etc.) Machine work and balancing done by a high end race car engine builder. 9:1 compression pistons. Brass freeze plugs. Cylinder head was rebuilt with new OE intake and exhaust valves, valves, new valve guides, new valve springs, all new tappet guides. A really thorough rebuild throughout. The front engine seal was updated to 4.2 Series 3 spec. (no physical changes to the engine just different parts that don’t leak like the original). Carburetors were rebuilt, brass floats have been replaced with new reproduction parts. Fuel lines replaced throughout with new parts. Original style fuel filter in original glass fuel bowl, and additional fuel filter mounted in trunk next to reproduction electronic fuel pump (replacing trouble-prone SU points-style pump).
Original matching numbers cylinder block and head.
New clutch, new flywheel ring gear (chewed ring gears were a problem for these cars, this one was not too bad when I bought it but I had access to new parts so I took advantage of it). New input shaft pilot bushing.
Transmission
Original syncro 4-speed, completely rebuilt with: New lay shaft and new lay gear, all new syncromesh rings, all new bearings including the needle bearings for the laygear, new thrust washers, new seals. Also, I had the gears and layshaft micro sealed with a graphite process that is supposed to decrease wear and reduce friction. I don’t know if it is really effective but the gearbox is very smooth and shifts perfectly. As with the engine, I had access to a good stock of new parts so I used the opportunity to get as many new parts in the gearbox as possible.
Cooling system
Rebuilt radiator with 4-row core in original style. Recent installation of all new radiator hoses and new “white stripe†OE heater hoses. Coolant changes every 2 since I have owned the car. New water pump installed when I rebuilt the engine. Also, I fitted a new front timing chain cover (the part behind the water pump). Fairly new OEM ribbed alternator/water pump belt, with a spare belt included in the trunk. Radiator expansion tank was replaced with new part. Radiator fan motor was rebuilt with new OE Lucas parts. Radiator thermo-switch was replaced with new OE part. Correct bypass-style thermostat.
Ignition system
Original distributor in perfect working condition, including original vacuum advance mechanism. Distributor backing plate and low voltage wire to points were replaced with new OE parts. Mechanical advance springs replaced with new OE Lucas parts. Coil is Lucas “Competition†model.
Exhaust system
Stainless steel tube headers and “big bore†stainless steel exhaust system from England. Great looks (like stock, just slightly larger tube diameter). Nice sound, not loud.
Charging system
Alternator was fitted with new bearings, otherwise it is original. Replaced alternator control unit with new Lucas part.
Driveshaft
Rebuilt with new U-joints, balanced, painted by a driveline specialty shop.
Rear axle/suspension
Completely redone, with new 3.07 ratio differential gear set, all bearings in the differential and rear suspension assembly were replaced with new parts. All bushings were replaced with new parts. All oil and grease seals were replaced with new parts. All of the rear suspension steel parts (diff housing, plates, attachment arms, etc) were powder coated in original black. New OE rear wheel spline drive units for both sides.
Brake system
Front brakes are Wilwood 4-piston calipers fitted to new OE disks with street compound pads (this was a retrofit kit offered by XK’s Unlimited). The original calipers are included with the car and can be restored back to stock if desired.
Rear brakes are new OE piston assemblies, new OE discs and new OE pads that I installed when I restored the rear suspension.
Hydraulic system
Brake power booster and brake master cylinder with new OE parts. The clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder were also replaced with new OE parts. I have run DOT5 silicone brake fluid in the brake and clutch hydraulic system since I redid them, to avoid any chance of water buildup and rust/corrosion. The hydraulics are in great shape and work perfectly.
Electrical system
Body and engine room wire harness replaced with new reproduction wire harness from England (cloth wrapped, original wire type/colors. Fuse boxes replaced with new OE parts. Heater fan motor replaced with new OE part. All electrical functions work , including windshield washers, multi-speed wipers, dash lights, original horns, etc.
Lighting system
Turn signal lenses replaced with new OE European parts (front: amber/clear; rear: red/amber). Headlamps are European H4 lenses. All running lights, reverse light, etc. function properly.
Wheels/suspension
Wheels were replaced with Dayton original style wire wheels (forged center hub, in original Series 1 style), however wheels are 6†wide compared to original 5†wide, and are designed for tubeless tire operation. All 4 knock-offs were replaced with new parts. Front suspension was totally rebuilt with all new bushings, new upper and lower ball joints, new OE style shocks, new tie rod ends. Tires are in great shape with few miles of use.
Gauges
Completely rebuilt original speedometer currently showing 64,352 original miles, with new drive cable and angle drive, and works very smoothly. Currently fitted tachometer is a NOS unit from 1968 Series 2 – I installed this because it had a 5,500 RPM redline which appealed to me at the time – I never took it up that fast but I liked the look. The original 5,000 RPM redline tach is included with the car and is in good cosmetic and functional condition but was not restored like the speedometer . I have fitted Smiths 270-degree sweep mechanical gauges for oil pressure and water temperature, the original gauges are included with the car. Fuel and ampere gauges fitted are original. All gauges light up properly, all warning lights function properly. All gauges are in great cosmetic condition.
Interior/Top/Trunk
Interior was redone with an original-style kit from England. Top was redone in original black and tan canvas by a local shop that specialized in Jag restoration and is in really nice shape (plastic window has slight fogging around the edges, probably can be polished out). Original center console and radio console, both were restored with original trim material from England. Radio is not original, but radio cutout is still original shape so original radio could be returned to original if desired (original radio is not included). Currently fitted steering wheel is Moto-Lita aftermarket part in original style, but slightly smaller diameter with thicker leather rim. Original wood steering wheel is included with the car. Trunk liner and panels were replaced with new original style parts. Trunk is in good shape, trunk pan was replaced with new OE part some years ago due to rust in original pan. Spare tire is in new condition, mounted on original 5†wide wire wheel with good spokes and spline drive. Original jack included, also included is new knock-off hammer. Fuel tank is in good condition with no known rust or leaks.

Jaguar E-Type Roadster - Series 1 4.2 Litre *** PRICE REDUCTION ***
Details
*** Price Reduced to Sell ***
Just fabulous are the words one would use to describe this time warp 1966 Jaguar E-Type Roadster!
It is arguably the most sought after model, being a Series 1 4.2 litre finished in the desirable colour combination of white with a black interior and black soft top.
This car was imported by its current owner in July 2011 and has been regularly exercised and enjoyed ever since. It has had three owners from new, and the second owner from 1979 to 2011 who must have loved it to within an inch of its life! So proud of his car was he that he serviced it prior to delivering it to its new owner!
This matching numbers car is incredibly original, though it has had a retrim (in original materials) and has been totally refurbished mechanically in recent years. It has travelled less than 4,000 miles since a comprehensive engine, gearbox, differential, suspension and brake system rebuild.
Additionally the car has had some sympathetic upgrades to ensure it is a more usable classic, including an upgraded cooling system. The car is fitted with Dayton CWW 6″ wheels and as new Avon CR6ZZ tyres.
Everything works as it should and the car comes with a comprehensive history file, books and tools.
It is black plate California car with a very straight rust free body. The can be enjoyed in its current LHD configuration or alternatively can be easily converted to RHD.
This car is reluctantly offered for sale and realistically priced. If it was RHD the asking price would be north of $150,000!
Note: the odometer reads 65,293 miles and not km.
