From the JDC, visitor register:
I just (March 10, 2001) purchased a 1967 Series 1 roadster, 1E13974. It needs new floorpans, paint, wheels, carb repair and probably 1000 other misc. fixes or parts. I recently completed restoration of a 1974 TR6. Had lots of fun and ended up with a great car. I have wanted an XKE most of my 54 years and am having a great time planning the restoration.

Opening bid $85,000 reserve not met, no bids yet 6 days left in auction.

Sellers description:
excellent example of a late Series 1 (1E 13974) 4.2L Jaguar E-type OTS tub-off restoration. The restoration took place over an eight year period where it was completely stripped to the last screw and restored with all of the correct component coatings/paint and plating. No expense has been spared in this ground up restoration which includes a complete drive train rebuild/freshening with taller road gears in the differential, all new correct tan leather upholstery and top, and custom black paint.

This numbers matching car is completely original except for the new wider than original Dayton stainless spoked 15”X6” wheels on the ground (the new spare is as original) and a polished steering wheel. This car is show quality but has been driven a little over 1,500 miles and will need some detailing before expecting 100 point awards. The speedometer incated 12,000 miles when acquired and now shows approximately 14,000 miles. The seller believes the mileage when acquired was incorrect.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
