This 1967 Jaguar XKE is a Series I roadster that was purchased by the seller in 1983 and subsequently refurbished over the next 30-plus years. The bulk of the work, including rust repair and an interior refit, was carried out in the 1980s and 1990s, though a second repaint in red was performed in 2017. The car is powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six and equipped with a four-speed manual transmission, tan leather upholstery, a tan soft top, triple SU carburetors, 15″ knock-off wire wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, recessed headlights, a vented hood, and a wood-rimmed steering wheel. This XKE is now offered with service records, a driver’s handbook, literature, refurbishment photos, a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, and a clean Michigan title in the seller’s name.

Delivered new in Pale Primrose Yellow, the body was disassembled in the early 1980s and the floor pans, trunk floor, and rocker panels were replaced. The car was then repainted in red. Another repaint was carried out in 2017. Equipment includes a replacement tan soft top, a vented hood, a left-side mirror, recessed headlights, and chrome bumpers with guards.

Chrome 15″ wire wheels are secured with two-eared knockoffs and were mounted with 185-series Michelin X red line tires in 1992. A spare is mounted in the trunk. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel disc brakes with inboard rear rotors.

The interior was originally upholstered in black and was re-trimmed in tan leather in 1983. The carpets, dash pad, and interior trim were also replaced throughout the 1980s and 1990s. Appointments include a wood-rim steering wheel, a cabin heater, and chrome fittings. The windshield washers and Blaupunkt radio are inoperable.

Smiths instrumentation includes a 160-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and centrally positioned auxiliary gauges. The clock is inoperable. The five-digit odometer shows 52k miles, 2,500 of which have been added by the seller. Total chassis mileage is unknown.

The twin-cam 4.2L inline-six features a trio of SU carburetors and was factory rated at 265 horsepower and 283 lb-ft of torque. The seller reports that carburetors were fitted with new diaphragms in 2022, and the fluids were changed in March 2023.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate lists a build date of February 16, 1967, along with factory colors and serial numbers.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
