Ebay item 2/26/08
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll
Current bid $36,100 reserve not met, 9 bids, 9 days left in auction. Car now located in Eugene, Oregon.

Sellers description:
1968 Series I ½ E-type Jaguar. These cars retained the beauty and sleekness of the Series I cars with only a handful of changes from the 1961-1967 E-Types. Only 771 of this model were produced. Since these cars retained all the body panels and bumpers of the series I, it continues to showcase the timeless beauty of the original design. This combined with the Series II upgrades makes these cars far more desirable that the Series II. Serious collectors will recognize that these cars are visually identical to the Series I E-types and are only lacking the glass over the headlamps. This car, restored about 6 years ago, was fitted with a new Series I bonnet with the enclosed headlights. This E-type has no signs of rust repair or any accident damage. When restored it was finished in an elegant forest green color including all subframes and the underside of the bonnet. It is mechanically and aesthetically brilliant. This is not a 100 JCNA car that has to be pushed onto the field. This is a gorgeous OTS that will run with the best of them performing just as an E-type should and look fantastic doing it. Everything works and does what it should, (except the clock). This E-type has been loved and maintained.

Car returns to ebay 9/25/09

Opening bid $50,000 reserve not met, no bids yet 3 days left in auction. Car now said to be located in Cleveland, Tennessee.

Sellers description:
1968 E-Type Jaguar. This car is a very high level show / driver. I purchased the car from The Sports Car Shop in Eugene Oregon a couple years ago. I was told it was a numbers matching frame off restoration prior to that and I have no reason to dispute that claim. You will notice it has the 67 bonnet with covered headlights which I assume was added at the time of the frame off restoration. You may agree it improves the looks of the car as I do. It has always been garaged in my posession. This car is runs solidly, drives solidly, looks execellent and is very reliable. I have in fact driven this car on several long distance trips (900+ miles) without incident. There is no better feeling than blowing by a modern car on the interstate in this e-type at 80 mph and watching the looks on astonished folks' faces. If you inspect this car and drive it you will most likely buy it.

Mechanically the car is very sound. This car starts from cold with choke on the first crank, accelerates under full throttle with surpising power, shifts cleanly, and stops perfectly. There are no issues with any system (except original radio which does not work). Everything else works including the clock! The car does not overheat even in Tennessee summer traffic. JaguarSouth just completed full rebuild of the transmission including new clutch pressure plate, throughout bearing etc. I drove it home 200 glorious mile through the mountains of Northern Georgia, North Carolina and East Tennessee.

Cosmetically the car is excellent. The interior has exellent black leather, dash, and correct carpet with under felt. All gauges, lights and switches function as they should. Steering wheel is great, as is interior chrome trim and shift knob. Engine bay has an extremely high level of detail and is very clean. The paint is dark green with excellent gloss. The body has no rust and body panels fit very nicely. Chrome is good. Glass is good. Tires are Pirelli on Dayton tubeless wires. I have a set of Coker reproduction redlines that can go with the car. There are very few miles on them. Conervtible top is very good.

This is a 40+ year old used car and does have a few very small cosmetic issues which I will be happy to discuss with serious buyers. I drive it frequently therefore it has a few small chips and imperfections. The upside is that it is completely sorted and solid. This car attracts alot of attention wherever it goes. I have enjoyed now it is time for the next project.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
