Ebay item 11/30/14
www.ebay.com/itm/Jaguar-E-Type-1968-jaguar-xke-roadster-amazing-restoration-at-c ...
Current bid US $28,051 reserve not met 8 bids 6 days left in auction.

Sellers description:
YAZTEC AUTOMOTIVE IS PROUD TO OFFER THIS TWO OWNER, RUST-FREE, SOUTHERN 1968 XKE (SERIES 1.5) ROADSTER WITH ONLY 82,811 ACTUAL MILES FOR SALE. THIS CAR IS A PART OF MY PERSONAL COLLECTION WHICH WAS RESTORED DURING A TWO YEAR PERIOD AT A COST OVER $50,000.00 AND HUNDREDS OF MAN HOURS. ALL RESTORATION IS DOCUMENTED WITH PHOTOS AND A PORTFOLIO INCLUDING ALL THE RECEIPTS. IT IS FINISHED IN THE ORIGINAL PRIMROSE YELLOW WITH BLACK LEATHER INTERIOR. IT LOOKS, RUNS, PERFORMS, AND STOPS WELL. IT STILL RETAINS ALL ORIGINAL BODY PANELS, FLOORS, AND MATCHING POWERTRAIN.

THIS XKE WAS SOLD NEW IN CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA IN 1968. THE FIRST OWNER DROVE IT OCCASIONALLY UNTIL 1979. THE SECOND OWNER, FROM CHATTANOOGA, TENNESSEE BOUGHT THE CAR WITH ROUGHLY 56,000 MILES ON 02/01/1979. THIS CAR WAS ALWAYS GARAGED AND HAS NEVER SEEN RAIN, SALT, OR SNOW. THE SECOND OWNER DROVE THE CAR OCCAIONALLY UNTIL 1992 AND THEN PARKED IT WITH ABOUT 82,809 MILES. HE CRANCKED UP THE CAR OCCASIONALLY TO CIRCULATE ALL THE FLUIDS. UNFORTUNATELY, THIS CAR SAT UNTIL 2012 WHEN I PURCHASED THE CAR. THE CAR WAS STILL IN GOOD CONDITION BUT THE ORIGINAL LACQURE PAINT SHOWED SOME LIGHT CRACKING. THE BRAKES WERE TOTALLY INOP AND THE INTERIOR SHOWED ITS AGE. AT THAT POINT, I DECIDED TO HAVE THE GUYS AT MY RESTORATION SHOP RESTORE IT TO THE BEST OF THEIR ABILITIES. ALL COMPONENTS OF THE CAR WERE INSPECTED, REPAIRED, RESTORED, OR REPLACED AS NECESSARY WITHOUT CONSIDERATION OF THE COST. THERE ARE STILL A FEW MINOR ITEMS THAT NEED TO BE FIXED WHICH ARE LISTED BELOW. I HAVE ONLY DRIVEN THIS CAR LESS THAN 2 MILES ( SEE THE TRIP METER) SINCE RESTORATION WAS COMPLETED.

BODY: THE BODY PANELS ARE ORIGINAL AND RAZOR STRAIGHT WITH GREAT SHUT LINES. YOU CAN HOLD THE DRIVER'S DOOR 6" AWAY FROM THE BODY AND LET GO, IT CLOSES LIKE A MERCEDES DOOR WHICH IS AMAZING FOR A 48 YEAR OLD CAR WITH UNIBODY CONSTRUCTION. ALL COMPONENTS INCLUDING THE FRONT AND REAR SUSPENSIONS, ENGINE, BONNET, HOOD, BOOT, ETC. WERE REMOVED. THE ORIGINAL PAINT WAS STRIPPED TO THE BARE METAL, THE SMALL DINGS AND IMPERFECTIONS REPAIRED, BODY WAS PRIMED, AND A HIGH QUALITY BASE-COAT, CLEAR COAT PAINT WAS SPRAYED. FINALLY, AFTER THE PAINT WAS CURED, IT WAS WATER SANDED AND POLISHED. THE PAINT IS GLOSSY WITH A MARBLE FINISH WITH A FEW VERY MINOR IMPERFECTIONS.

FLOORS: THE FLOOR PANS AND TRUNK PAN ARE ORIGINAL WITHOUT ANY SIGNS OF REPLACEMENT OR REPAIR WORK. THE FACTORY RUST-PROHIBITIVE MATERIAL STILL EXIST ON THE FLOORS. THERE ARE A FEW SMALL DIMPLES ON THE FLOOR PANS FROM IMPACT WITH ROAD DEBRIES. OUR TECHNICIAN PLACED THE CAR ON THE LIFT, CLEANED THE SURFACES AND PAINTED THEM WITH A THIN LAYER OF RUST-PROHIBITIVE PAINT.

BRIGHT WORKS: THE ORIGINAL BUMPERS, LIGHT BEZELS, AND MISC. TRIM WERE REMOVED AND RE-CHROMED. SOME ITEMS REPLACED.

GLASS: THE WINDSHIELD AND SIDE GLASS ARE ORIGINAL AND IN VERY GOOD CONDITION WITH THE EXCEPTION THAT THE WINDSHIELD HAS SOME MINOR SCUFFS. THE WINDSHIELD SHOULD HAVE REALLY BEEN REPLACED BUT I WANTED TO KEEP THE CAR AS ORIGINAL AS POSSIBLE.

LIGHT LENSES: ALL LIGHT LENSES REPLACED

HOOD ( CONVERTIBLE TOP): THE HOOD AND FRAME WERE REMOVED. THE FRAME WAS BEAD-BLASTED AND PAINTED AND THE HINGES WERE LUBRICATED. A NEW HIGH QUALITY GERMAN STAYFAST CANVAS TOP WAS INSTALLED. ALL RELATED WEATHERSTIRRING WERE REPLACED. NO BOOT COVER

WHEELS AND TIRES: THE ORIGINAL WHEELS WERE OK BUT NOT NICE ENOUGH TO BE ON A RESTORED CAR. I PURCHASED A SET OF BRAND NEW TRIPLE-LACED, 72 SPOKE CHROME DAYTON WIREWHEELS AND NEW RED LINE RADIAL TIRES ALREAD MOUNTED AND BALANCED FROM COKER TIRES. THE SPARE WHEEL AND TIRE ARE ORIGINAL AND CLEANED UP WELL. ALSO, A BRAND NEW SET OF SPINNERS WERE PURCHASED. THE TIRES STILL RETAIN THE ORIGINAL IDENTIFICATION STICKERS VISIBLE IN SOME OF THE PHOTOS.

INTERIOR: I PURCHASED 2 LARGE BLACK LEATHER HIDES WITH A SANDGRAIN FINISH. MY EXPERT UPHOLSTERY MAN RECOVERED THE ORIGINAL SEATS, DOOR PANELS, CONSOLE, DASH CAP, AND THE INNER SILLS. A NEW HIGH QUALITY CARPET KIT AND HARDURA SET WERE INSTALLED. THE DASH BEZEL AND INSTRUMENTS ARE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. THE ORIGINAL WOOD STEERING WHEEL WAS REFINISHED. I RECOMMEND THAT A NEW STEERING COLUMN COLLAR BUSHING TO BE INSTALLED AS THERE IS A LITTLE PLAY IN THE SYSTEM. ALL WEATHERSTRIPPING INCLUDING THE DOOR, TRUNK, AND BONNET SEALS ARE NEW

MECHANICAL: ENGINE: THE ENGINE STARTS UP IMMEDIATELY. IT RUNS SMOOTH, HAS GREAT OIL PRESSURE, RUNS COOL, AND DOES NOT SMOKE. MY TECHNICIAN CHECKED THE COMPRESSION IN ALL CYLINDERS BEFORE RESTORATION STARTED. THE READINGS VARRIED FROM 152 TO 158 PSI FOR ALL 6 CYLINDERS WHICH ARE GREAT VALUES FOR A 4.2L ENGINE WITH 9:1 COMPRESSION RATIO. ALSO, HE REMOVED THE VALVE COVERS AND THE OIL PAN TO INSPECT THE GENERAL CONDITION OF THE CAMS, LIFTERS, CRANKSHAFT, ETC WHERE EXPOSED. THEY WERE IN GREAT ORIGINAL CONDITION. THE ENGINE STARTS IMMEDIATELY RUNS VERY SMOOTH WITH GREAT OIL PRESSURE AT IDLE AND RUNS COOL. HE PERFORMED A MAJOR TUNE UP INCLUDING NEW POINTS, DIST. CAP, AND ALL NEW SPRK WIRES AND ENDS ( NOS CHAMPION ENDS-SEE PHOTO). THE ENGINE OIL AND FILTER CHANGED. THE DRIVE BELTS WERE REPLACED.

TRANSMISSION: THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS GREAT IN ALL 4 FORWARD GEARS AND REVERSE. THE CLUTCH AND COMPONENTS WERE REPLACED.

DRIVESHAFT: NEW J-JOINTS INSTALLED.

FUEL SYSTEM: CARBURETORS: THE ORIGINAL CABURETORS WERE REBUILT AND THE EXTERIOR BODIES WERE POLISHED. THE LINKAGES WERE ADJUSTED AND A NEW CHOKE CABLE INSTALLED. THE FUEL PUMP, FUEL LINES, AND THE FUEL BOWL WERE REPLACED. THE ORIGINAL FUEL TANK WAS SENT OUT TO BE PROFESSIONALLY BOILED OUT, CLEANED, AND COATED.

COOLING SYSTEM: RADIATOR:THE RADIATOR WAS REMOVED, BOILED AND FLUSHED OUT BY A PROFESSIONAL SHOP. THE RADIATOR CORE WAS REPLACED. ALSO, THE ORIGINAL OVER-FLOW TANK WAS RECONDITIONED.

HOSES: NEW HOSE KIT CONSISTING OF 16 HOSES FOR THE COOLING SYSTEM AND HEATER AS WELL AS ALL NEW CLAMPS WERE INSTALLED. A NEW WATER PUMP AND THEMOSTAT WERE INSTALLED.

EXHAUST SYSTEM: THE ORIGINAL CAST IRON MANIFOLDS WERE REPLACED WITH BRAND NEW CERAMIC MANIFOLDS. THE PROBLEM THAT WE ENCOUNTERED WAS THE NEW REAR MANIFOLD DID NOT HAVE A HOLE FOR THE CROSS-OVER PIPE SO WE ELIMINATED THE PIPE AND COVERED THE INTAKE ON THE CARBURETOR SIDE. THIS WILL CAUSE THE ENGINE TO TAKE LONGER TO WARM UP. WE HAVE THE ORIGINAL MANIFOLDS AND THE CROSS-OVER PIPE TO GIVE TO THE BUYER. THE ORIGINAL DOWN PIPES AND EXHAUST PIPES WERE REPLACED WITH A BRAND NEW SET OF STAINLESS STEEL SYSTEM WITH STAILESS STEEL HANGERS ( SEE PHOTOS).

BRAKES: THE BRAKE CALIPERS WERE MOSTLY IN BAD SHAPE AND SOME FROZEN. WE SENT ALL BRAKE COMPONENTS TO "APPLE HYDRAULICS" IN NY TO CLEAN AND SLEEVE THE BRAKE CALIPER CYLINDERS. THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER, SLAVE CYLINDER, SERVO, BRAKE LINES, BRAKE ROTORS AND PADS, BEARINGS, FLEX LINES, ETC. WERE REBUILT OR REPLACED.

SUSPENSION: THE FRONT SUSPENSION WAS DISASSEMBLED. NEW TIE ROD ENDS, BUSHINGS, AND SHOCK ABSORBERS WERE INSTALLED. THE REAR SUSPENSION WAS COMPLETELY DISASSEMBLED AND COMPONENTS REPLACED AS NECESSARY (SEE PHOTO)

ELECTRICAL: ALL LIGHTS, TURN SIGNALS, BRAKE LIGHTS, FLASHER, ETC. WORK PROPERLY. THE GAUGES WORK. HOWEVER, THE FUEL GAUGE STILL DOES NOT REGISTER PROPERLY AS A NEW FUEL SENDING UNIT WAS INSTALLED. PERHAPS A BAD CONNECTION. THE TWO ORIGINAL HORNS ARE MADE OUT OF POT METAL AND WERE IN BAD CONDITION. WE HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIND THE CORRECT NOS TYPE HORNS FOR THE CAR. THEREFORE, THE HORNS ARE INOP. THE ORIGINAL WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR FAN WAS FUNCTINING PROPERLY BUT IT JUST STOPPED WORKING. THE CONNECTIONS NEED TO BE CHECKED AND/OR NEW MOTOR MAY BE REQUIRED. WE WERE SO EXHAUSTED DURING THIS RESTORATION THAT WE ARE GOING TO LET THE NEW OWNER DEAL WITH IT.

ENGINE COMPARTMENT: THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT RETAINS SOME OF THE ORIGINAL PAINT. IT IS DETAILED AND IN VERY NICE CONDITION. THE BACK OF BONNET WAS PAINTED. THE HOOD LOCATING PINS, LATCHES, AND SAFETY LATCH ARE NEW (SEE PHOTO).

TRUNK: THE TRUNK COMPARTMENT WAS PAINTED AND IT IS IN AN MAZING CONDITION. THE WOOD COVER PANELS WERE OLD AND IN BAD CONDITION. NEW WOOD PANELS WERE INSTALLED. A NEW HARDURA TRUNK KIT WAS INSTALLED. THE TRUNK HINGE CURLY SPRINGS ON ONE SIDE ARE WEAK. THEREFORE, THE OPPOSITE SIDE HINGE SPRINGS NEED REPLACEMENT. WE HAVE THE PART.THE TRUNK HOUSES THE ORIGINAL SPARE, JACK, WRENCH, AND A HAMMER. I DO NOT HAVE THE ORIGINAL TOOLS.

DOCUMENTS: ORIGINAL OWNER'S HANDBOOK, PORTFOLIO WITH ALL THE RECEIPTS, XKE COLLECTION GUIDE, AND A RESTORATION GUIDE.

Auction description:

Lot #55464

Seller: Zerooooo

Location: Costa Mesa, California, previously Marietta, Georgia

Chassis: 1E17123

85k Miles Shown, TMU

Numbers-Matching 4.2L Inline-Six

Four-Speed Manual Transmission

Pale Primrose Yellow Paintwork

Black Soft Top

Black Vinyl Upholstery

Polished 15" Knock-Off Wire Wheels

Four-Wheel Disc Brakes

Private Party Or Dealer: Private Party

This 1968 Jaguar XKE is a Series 1.5 Roadster that was acquired by the seller in 2015 and is powered by a numbers-matching 4.2-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. The car is finished in Pale Primrose Yellow with a black soft top over matching vinyl upholstery, and additional features include a wood-rimmed steering wheel, exposed headlights, four-wheel disc brakes with inboard-mounted rears, and polished knock-off wire wheels. Maintenance within the last year is said to have included replacement of the radiator, thermostat, ignition wires, camshaft covers, brake master cylinder, and rear calipers. This Series 1.5 XKE is now being offered with a clean California title in the seller’s name.

The Series 1.5 XKE featured early-style taillights mounted above the rear bumper as well as exposed headlights that were similar to the Series 2 models. This example is finished in Pale Primrose Yellow, and exterior features include a louvered hood, a black soft top, and dual central exhaust outlets. The windshield washer reservoir and pump were reportedly replaced during current ownership, and the windshield wiper motor has also been rebuilt. The seller describes evidence of prior bodywork around the nose of the vehicle and states that the fitment of the body panels has been adjusted and blemishes were repaired. A chip and scratches are noted in the windshield, and the wipers are said to only operate in the highest speed setting.

Chrome 15” wire wheels feature knock-off hubs and are mounted with red-stripe tires. The car rides on independent suspension, and stopping power is provided by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rears. The wheel bearings were reportedly re-packed in 2015, while more recent service has included replacement of the brake master cylinder along with the rear brake calipers and pads in May 2021.

The cabin features bucket seats trimmed in black vinyl with a matching dashboard, door panels, and carpets protected by rubber Jaguar-branded floor mats. LED bulbs have been added to the dash, and amenities include a central arm rest, a locking glovebox, rocker switches for vehicle functions, and an analog clock that was reportedly rebuilt and converted to use a AAA-size battery in 2017. The seller notes that the radio is not hooked up and reports a tear in the passenger seat.

A wood-rimmed three-spoke steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation that includes a 160-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer that was rebuilt in 2015. A quartet of auxiliary gauges in the center console include displays for amperage, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows just over 85k miles, around 2,400 of which have been added during current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.

The 4.2-liter inline-six features dual Zenith-Stromberg carburetors that were reportedly overhauled in 2015. Additional work at that time is said to have included flushing the fuel tank and replacing the fuel sending unit and the clutch release cylinder. A Lucas fuel pump was installed in 2017, the starter and alternator were rebuilt in 2018 and Series I-spec camshaft covers were installed that same year, and the cooling system was overhauled in 2020 with an aluminum radiator, rebuilt fan motors, and a replacement thermostat and temperature sensor. Maintenance since July 2021 has included an oil change as well as replacing the fuel filter, ignition wires, and spark plugs.

Engine block stamping 7E15403-9 shown above matches the number stamped on the chassis plate.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission.
