Oh gawd! yet another strange car at an extortionate price. It is said to be a 1964 4.2 , yet it was ( allegedly) registered on 1 May 1964, some 5 months before the 4.2 was announced. It bears a 1965 registration number. The inlet manifold is 4.2 , yet the gear lever surround is 3.8 . Spare us, please.....................

Above auction description:
1964 Jaguar E-Type 4.2 FHC Series I
Lot Number:
Estimate: £25,000 - 35,000
V5 Present
MoT Exempt
Chassis number: 20051
This 1964 Jaguar E‑type has been owned by the vendor since 1981, but dry‑stored for several years, and is now being sold as a restoration project. The original head is included with the sale.
Although the car has a G‑registration plate (1968/69), both the V5C document and Jaguar Heritage Trust production record trace certificate show it as a 1964 car, built in October and registered in November of that year ‑ when it was Dark Blue rather than the British Racing Green it is today.
The paperwork file includes the V5C (showing just two former registered keepers) and a copy of the Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate. The mileage indicated on the odometer is 74,782 miles. There's also a handful of bills from 2002 and 2010 relating to paint, one from 2006 for an exchange brake caliper and brake disc, and some other invoices from 1991 for a sill panel and lower rear wing panel and some suspension items. There's also a lifetime guarantee and receipt for a stainless steel exhaust fitted in 1996.

Regarding Christopher's comment above, not seeing the registration date he mentions, probably an error in the description at the time. This car should have been built in Oct. '64 as stated above and probably should have been titled a '65. The 4.2L motor began being installed in August of '64. Note also that it is estimated that approximately 70 of the very first 4.2L cars did not have the 1E VIN prefix stamped on the data plate, this is one of them.
