Auction description:
Brooklands Motor Museum
July 7th 2018
Lot 213 - 1965 Jaguar E-Type Series I Roadster (4.2 litre)
Registration BTH 140C
Chassis Number 1E20113
Engine Number 7E1841/9
Odometer reading 105,500 miles
Estimate £56,000 - £62,000

Originally registered on 12th March 1965, this Jaguar was originally a factory built coupé. However when undergoing a total restoration in 1989, the vendor purchased a roadster bodyshell from Martin Robey and re-bodied the car as a convertible. A new bonnet, doors and frames were also fitted. At the same time, a number of improvements were made to the car, namely a brake upgrade and the fitment of a five speed gearbox and a stainless steel exhaust. The engine has also been rebuilt with larger inlet valves, new pistons and balanced accordingly. A high torque starter motor and Kenlowe cooling fan have also been fitted. Finished in Carmen Red with black interior, this Jaguar is in excellent condition throughout and the vendor describes the car as driving with no known faults. Sitting proudly on a set of Dunlop SP tyres, this Jaguar E-Type is supplied with a V5C registration document together with a current MoT test certificate valid until 21st March 2019 together with a history file dating back to 1989 when the car was converted.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
