Ebay item 3/21/10
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jaguar-E-Type-XKE-Series-1-4-2-coupe-very-original-needs ...
Current bid $2,000 reserve not met, 2 bids 6 days left in auction. Buy it now price $17,500.

Sellers description:
Very original, matching numbers, 1967 Jaguar e-type fixed a head coupe in need of restoration. The car was last owned by an older gentleman that intended to restore it but never got around to it due to health reasons.

The odometer reads 42K miles and I was told it is accurate. Other than an exterior re-spray many years ago the car is all original and undisturbed. The interior is original, although badly worn in some areas. The engine compartment looks very much intact with the proper air cleaner, Lucas alternator, radiator and even the plastic tie down straps in the engine frames. I was told by the previous owner that the engine was last started about 5 years ago. I did verify that the engine spins. The fuel system and carbs will most likely need to be serviced before starting the engine.

There is rust on the body in the typical places and significant work will be required to restore the body. The worst rust is probably on the bottom of the bonnet (lower valance) which has deteriorated to the point where the bonnet cannot by held by the two front support hinges. The rest of the bonnet is straight with mostly surface rust. Floors and rocker panels will also need attention. Body panels for e-type are readily available.

Glass is good. Chrome pieces, including the difficult to find rear glass trim, are all still with the car and straight. Spare tire and original tool kit are included.

The engine number, which is stamped on the head and on the block, matches the original data plate. The VIN number, which is stamped on the frame that holds the suspension, also matches the data plate. Also matching is the body number which is on a tag in the rear of the car. As best as I can tell the car has never been in any serious accident.

Although this is a challenging project the good news is that you would be starting with a very desirable car. For starters it is a 1967 model year, considered by most as the most desirable year of the e-type since it was the last year of the series 1 with its covered headlights, triple carbs, full synchro gearbox and attractive bumpers. If you are going to spent time and money restoring an e-type, make sure you start with an undisturbed matching numbers car. This is the attractive 2 person coupe and not the larger 2+2. Lastly is the color combination of Opalescent silver blue with dark blue interior. This color combination is simply stunning on an e-type coupe and was original to this car.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
