This 1966 Jaguar XKE Series I coupe is finished in dark blue over biscuit and powered by a 4.2-liter DOHC inline-six mated to a synchronized four-speed manual transmission. Additional equipment includes chrome 15″ wire wheels, faired-in headlights, Wilwood front brake calipers, an aluminum radiator with a stainless top tank, a stainless exhaust header, and a Blaupunkt CD stereo. The vehicle is said to have been purchased by the owner’s late husband in Florida from the second owner in 1978 and subsequently relocated to Minnesota. Refurbishment during current ownership was ongoing from 2000-2014 and is said to have consisted of paint and bodywork, interior reupholstery, engine overhaul, transmission, and rear axle interior inspection and resealing, brake system replacement, replacement shocks, coil springs, clutch, hydraulic cylinders, mufflers, carburetor floats, and diaphragms. Modifications during the refurbishment include installing a hi-torque starter, spin-on style oil filter housing, tapered paper air cleaner cartridge, low oil pressure warning light, braided stainless-steel brake hoses, and a Bendix Interrupter fuel pump, regulator, and gauge. This Series I XKE is offered on behalf of the late owner’s widow with spare parts, invoices, a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, and a clean Minnesota title.
The car was reportedly refinished in dark blue during the refurbishment. Equipment includes faired-in headlights, chrome bumpers with overriders and guards, chrome window trim, and dual mirrors mounted to the window frame. The quarter panels, both front floors, and the trunk floor are said to be replaced and undercoated. Chips and scratches present on the hood are visible.
Chrome 15” wire wheels with two-eared knock-off nuts wear Universal Sport radial tires. A spare wheel wears a Michelin tire and is mounted in the cargo area. The suspension and steering bushings are said to have been replaced during refurbishment. Braking is provided by Wilwood front calipers and four-wheel discs with braided stainless hoses and quick bleeders.
The cabin is said to have been retrimmed in biscuit leather during refurbishment. Color-keyed upholstery covers the doors panels, console, dash, and rear cargo compartment while matching carpets and rubber floor mats line the footwells. A wood center console has been fitted along with lap and shoulder seat belts. Features include crank windows, a Blaupunkt CD stereo, and early-style toggle switches.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames a Smiths 160-mph speedometer and tachometer, the latter of which features an inset clock. Approximately 58k miles are shown on the five-digit odometer, 8k of which have been added under current ownership. The center dash houses Smiths coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level gauges as well as a Lucas ammeter. The seller notes that a low oil pressure warning light and fuel pump switch was added to the dash.
The 4.2-liter DOHC inline-six is said to have been overhauled which included boring the block .020″ over, replacing the brass expansion plugs, oil pump, pistons, and bearings, resurfacing the crankshaft, block, and cylinder heads, performing modifications to install an updated single-piece rear main seal, installing replacement valves and hardware, and reconditioning the connecting rods. The cylinder head was rebuilt and the triple SU carburetors were serviced. Additional modifications include an updated hi-torque electric starter, an aluminum radiator, an updated spin-on oil filter housing, and adding a Bendix Interrupter fuel pump, regulator, and gauge in place of the window washer reservoir.
Engine-block stamping 7E 5711-9 is matches the engine number listed on the under-hood identification plate and the JDHT certificate.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. The transmission and rear axle are said to have been resealed.
