Ebay item 7/16/20

www.ebay.com/itm/1965-Jaguar-E-Type/293648379971

Current bid:$69,000 no reserve 1 bid 9 days left in auction, seller rufrydermg 79k miles, car now said to be in Mississauga, Ontario, previously Toronto.

Seller's description:

I am selling my wife’s 1965 Jaguar E-Type, Series 1, 4.2L FHC, this E-Type is a 4 owner car from new (including my wife), with the second ownership extending over 25 years....the Jaguar was re-commissioned in 2013 by the 3rd owner.  At that time the XKE was put back to its original factory colors; Opalescent Dark Green on Suede Green interior. This E-Type has never been fully restored but rather a rolling refurbishment both mechanically & cosmetically, making it a very original car.

The second owner (from 1987 - 2013) was a Jaguar enthusiast & sat on the executive board of the Toronto Jaguar Owner’s Association hence, it received all of the TLC it needed to maintain its originality & demonstrate the beauty of an original car.  The Jaguar is part of my personal car collection that I started over 45 yeas ago & now given my age have decided to sell some of the cars & retain only a handful of my favorites.

This Jaguar started life on the 30th of September 1965, destined to a Toronto, Ontario, Canada dealer for pick up by the 1st owner. The exterior was finished in Opalescent Dark Green with a Suede Green interior. My understanding from the second owner was that the Jaguar was imported to Canada sometime in October 1965 through Jaguar of Eastern Canada, Port of Montreal. The first owner Don Sinclair was a very prominent Canadian business lawyer (Sinclair Law Office) & brother of the famed Gordon Sinclair... Canadian Journalist, Writer, Commentator & Broadcaster.

The Jaguar is a good, solid original car with excellent body panel fit, it is a matching numbers car & has the Jaguar Heritage Certificate to verify. The Jag received its first restoration in the mid 80’s whereby it received a re spray in Old English White & the interior was tided up with new carpets & the seats & interior panels reupholstered in Vinyl... it remained as such until 2013.

In 1987 with 74,022 miles on the odometer the Jag received an engine freshen-up only (as a compression test revealed 150psi across all cylinders) new gaskets, seals, flywheel turned & new ring gear installed, engine degreased/painted, new exhaust, tune-up, fluids changed, a COMPLETE gearbox rebuild, new clutch, rear radius arm bushing etc., a total of  $7,500.00 was spent on mechanical refurbishment (receipts available) & then stored for the next 25 years while the owner was pre-occupied with his career as a professor at the University of Toronto & a home relocation/restoration.  At that time he purchased a new Jaguar XJ6 which became his pride & joy & daily driver.

In 2013 the Jag E-Type was sold to a Jaguar enthusiast in ‘non-running condition’ along with his Jaguar XJ6. At this time the E-Type went through a very light but thorough restoration; including a bare metal re-spray back to its factory original Opalescent Dark Green, new wire wheels, a rebuild of the IRS, new brakes, front suspension bushings/components, exhaust resonators, fluid(s) change, rebuild of the carburetors, most of the bright work was re-chromed (by the best chrome shop in Canada...’Cambridge Chrome’), new headliner, carpet kit & the vinyl seat covers & panels were re-dyed to freshen up the interior, receipts for some of this work is available. The Jaguar was driven regularly to local car shows & special events accumulating an additional 4,000 miles over the period of his ownership.

In 2018, I purchased the car with 78,000 miles on the odometer & went through it mechanically to ensure it was safe & reliable...new alternator, fluids/filter change, new & correct sized Pirelli Cinturato tires were installed a tune-up & carburetor balancing was done...it didn’t need much overall. We drove it very little during our time of ownership & sat in storage most of the time along with the rest of the collection.

The Jag runs & drives beautifully; is safe, reliable & can be driven anywhere with confidence. Oil pressure is between 50-60lbs hot & 25 -30 at idle. It shifts up/down smoothly through all the gears, the clutch grabs nicely at the correct pedal position.

This Jag is a turn-key, first class driver quality car, the paint is very presentable & was a professional paint job at the time of restoration, it does shows some minor imperfections from age & use; bubbling of the paint just below the driver’s side rear side window & on the passenger’s side roof just above the drip molding (center of the door) there are other imperfections as would be expected for a paint job that was done over 7 years ago they are difficult to see. I see no sign of accident damage, the front space frame is solid & straight as are the floor pans which are the originals... however they were professionally patched with metal along the outside edge of the recessed pan many years ago & both show signs of dents & scraps from the past.

The dashboard is all original & all of the gauges are in working order (the fuel gauge can at times read incorrectly), a period correct radio is installed in the center console.

The framed ‘Heritage Certificate’ is available to verify that it is a “Matching Numbers” car & was dispatched from the factory in its current Opalescent Dark Green over Suede Green interior.

The original Tool Kit, Thor Hammer & Jack in pouch, are also included along with the Original Driver’s Handbook, & other literature.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
